This may be relevant

My old DK2 broke, got a new one. With the old one celestial bodies looked small and close. Now, they look massive and far.

Go figure. Very nice though. Makes me pause and sit watching stars/planets again. RES is crazy looking, in a good way.

"No, Dougal, these are SMALL, and those are FAR AWAY..."

Congrats on your new unit, really glad that it's working properly for you. Enjoy :)

Nothing at all, as far as I can tell, other than everything I use it on now has vastly improved depth.

I wonder if they changed the lenses somehow?
Or...could it be something changed the IPD settings or height?

Either way, very interesting and congrats on getting a new DK2.

What happened to your last one if you don't mind me asking?

That one - IPD is the reason for your eyes to correctly scale the stuff you see on your screens. Symptomes of both extremes are either a) everything feels out of place b) everything is so overly large.

So whats the correct IPD? Depends on your personal conception, really

For the record, the new DK2 uses the exact same settings as my old one. I just plugged it in and away I went. IPD is the same as the old one, exactly.

I find that changing from A to B and vice versa also affects the depth perception somewhat. That's why i wondered if they might have changed the lenses (or at least the depth of the lens holders).

I can tell no difference, physically, from the old unit. Very weird but, I like it.

Apparently the old one's cables went bad.

NO, it really doesn't. It depends upon the distance between your pupils *facepalm*

Even if you measure your IPD and setup your profile with the given IPD, the stuff can still feel out of place - the IPD is just a number in the end - the only thing which really tells you that what you see feels right, is your perception. Feel free to enter a number and believe thats the correct way to set it up or start trusting your perception.

Even though Ancipital is correct, I am definitely with you on this one. Personally I think it has something to do with ED itself, I can't use my 'recommended' IPD with ED, 55 is what works for me in ED, 64 is for other applications.

If I was forced to use 64 in ED, I would likely switch back to my 4K TV

Sigh. You're not even worth arguing with :)

Ack, I couldn't do that, the current framerate caps at 4k with HDMI and friends are painful, even before it hits the telly's FRC. I've played with some 4k monitors with quad DVI, where you could drive each 1080p quadrant as a display head, which avoids the issue somewhat, but that's a bit much for gaming.
