One thing that is starting to get me down now is the having to travel between ships to change ship, I find myself buying a sidewinder and equipping with max FSD and dumping everything else in it to get a cheap travel ship so that I can move between my operations in the game (leaving nicely equipped ship somewhere).

With the community goals, it's a pain as for example I have a transport ship for doing the transport goals, and then an combat ship for the combat goals, and of course an explorer ship which I now can't use if I want to do the community goals.

FD, I would like the ability to either select which ship I load into when starting the game, or - (which I believe was discussed) - some way of taking me to the ship (rather than bringing the ship to me) instantly (even if it costs).

Thoughts ?

I said this in the last post that suggested this and I'll say it here:

Are you suggesting that we can potentially teleport across the galaxy at game start?

I think Elite is all about the feeling of real space-travel. So for me teleport is out of discussion. But in a far advanced civilization there will be means of people moving (i mean, you see so many NPC Orcas flying around). Maybe there is room for a means of payed transportation taking some real in-game-time. Significantly more time than traveling in your own ship to keep that an option.

I thought about this a long time ago and I personally think that the best way would be to pay an npc to bring your other ship to your current location, and of course with ETA depending how far this stored ship is from you.

Yep, I support this and suggest this is not a free service and not instantly fullfilled. So you can set the request and get your ship to enter a little later. Cost and time may depend on distance.

Very much this. In fact, this is in the design proposal anyway. Why didn't you include this in the Poll? All you seem to be doing with this poll is seeking support for your own idea.

I am amazed that so many people see this as a space simulation, meaning it should fit to reality. That is exactly the main reason for many others to drop out. It's a game, fill it with game content like aliens, lots of loot and of course instant accessing every ship. Anyway, realism already lacks because of the many colonized star systems. That will never happen. Mankind is unable to survive in metal boxes travelling between the stars...

I feel this is about what I would go for too. Maybe with a notification of when it has arrived?

This - pay an NPC, or pay to be transported - but this should not be instantly - it should take time... if you want to go quicker - use you own ship....

I voted 'leave as is'.., but a (non-instantaneous) paid for travel would be better..

Personally, I don't like any game that has a real time wait element in it - as then you have to schedule your life around a game (think Farmville/Eve), and I'm not prepared to do that, as I have a very active life and play as and when I can, not as and when I have to.

All this does it put me off wanting to play, since knowing that changing the way I want to play involves a long slow stupid useless flight using my cheap and disposable sidewinders with A grade FSD's and everything else sold or moved to lightest weight is he only options, and either then buying another ship at the destination for the purpose I want - keeping the sidewinder parked so I can go back to what I was doing previously.

After all it's a game, not a real life space simulator.

Oh well.

*long pause*

Can I have your stuff when you go?

I haven't voted because the choice I would prefer myself is not one of them, although close. Yes... pay for/have your ship brought/flown from a specific location to where you want in a specific realistic game mechanics time frame. Teleportation is silly, game breaking unrealistic stupidness, so despite most of these rather outragious poll choices, at least this thread could serve as to realistic suggestions yes, so thanks for the OP for bringing this subject up.

I've been involved too long to quit, but it does annoy me.

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't understand the concept of time invested by waiting around doing nothing ? - If I have an hour to play this week, then I don't want to spend that hour waiting for a ship to be brought to me - I just don't get it?

It has been brought up *many* times before.

Don't you dare -- In fact just delete the thing, seems the community is already set in it's ways

Has it, must have missed that one :) I await a relevant thread! (edit: not really, I'm not that to be honest about this, just thought I should input my pennies' worth)

Instant? No. However, I would like to be able to hire a Pilot's Federation member to pilot a stored ship to the storage hangers of my chosen home station in real time for a fee. Said fee could be of a similar amount to the amount you'd lose selling the Sidewinder you'd buy to make the trip yourself. I'd even be happy with a scaled delivery time, where a close-by system would allow delivery to be made within 12 hours, further away would need a one day turn-around, and something on the other side of inhabited space would take two or more days.

I'd like a 'Shipyard Transfer Service' so i can pay a few thousand credits to have a ship transferred from an origin point to a specific shipyard (not necessarily the one i'm in) and have this take several hours for an NPC to fly.
This could have a tiering of service but 'instant' transfers are too far.

While on the subject.... i'd happily pay for a 'Commander Transfer Service' in which i could log-off one night with a request to relocate my command and have this take a few hours which can happen while i'm offline

I am not saying it's fine as it is, but the other options are even worse. I hope that we get a driver profession at some point, with NPCs and CMDRs for hire, but no instant teleportation.
