I actually named mine the Nostromo, lol. Great minds... (And dibs!!) In any case, I had the same goal to reach the Asp and turn to exploring. Unfortunately the Asp looks better from a distance, to me at least, and you spend most of your time looking around the cockpit for better angle, there isn't enough to distract you while in the black. After the initial disappointment wore off, it grew on me a little, but really, I cannot bring myself to genuinely like it.
My Cobra, the Useless Reptile, has served me well so far. For the journeys I have made and plan to make in the future, it fits my style perfectly. There's still much more I can do with her before her time is over.

Mine does 35 Ly on fumes, and has shields + guns + shield cell bank. Not PvP combat-worthy, but NPCs pose no threat as running away is always an option.
T6 explorer here - kitted out for over 29LY per jump. Second major expedition in the Viaticus Rex II, this one coming back from Sagittarius A*.
It gets the job done.

Same here. Asp serves me well, additional ~5 LYs jump range (compared to Hauler) doesn't seem to be a big thing at first glance but it is, huge fuel tank helps when you stumble upon streak of unscoopable stars and of course view from the cockpit is much better, but... I don't know, it just doesn't feel right.
We'll see what Diamondback brings to the table. Unlike Ziljan, I am somewhat sceptical about it, though.
I just upgraded to an Asp from my Adder, but it doesn't seem to fit well with me. The jump range and general versatility is nice but there was just something about my Adder which I loved. I'm seriously considering bringing the Berus back out of retirement. I do have high hopes for the Diamindback, though. It looks great, it's intended for what I like to do, and I have a liking for rattlesnakes already.
I know the feeling. The Asp is the Goliath to my Cobra's David: bigger, stronger, and leapier, but more lumbering. We shall see what the Diamondback will bring, though.
Funnily enough I was switching from my Imperial Clipper to an Asp and it felt small and nimble

Asp for me - just the view in the rift and the non-brickyness makes it my favourite over the Anaconda.

I'm blundering about in an Asp and I'll hold my hand up and agree with the "it doesn't feel quite right" group. I like the jump distance and cockpit but it just doesn't feel nimble enough. When I stop exploring I'll be selling it and going back to something a little zippier. Not sure what, the Cobra is a nice all round ship but I really liked the look of the Imperial Courier, right up to the point they revealed the jump distance! Might get a courier and see if I can suitably upgrade it.
I love my Asp but I had good times in my Cobra, too. It's a great explorer - especially since I have the chrome paint and it looks insanely badass in screenies. (Cue: Front 242 "Circling Overland")

The only ship with decent range that will beat the asp in supercruise turning speed is the adder.
