This has moved onto part two? A few weeks away from ED and I come back to find players are still circumventing Open by switching to Solo...

You can have some fun and strange encounters in Open and thats why I like it. Recently I was playing late at night and got interdicted by a pirate. Instead of issuing demands he started typing the lyrics of Miley Cyrus's Wreaking ball. Through conversation he eventually asked to join the teamspeak server I was using. It turns out there are several russian people that randomly join teamspeak servers and/or games and sing to players. These russian guys sang songs to me on teamspeak I requested (Ziggy would like this - I got them to do Life on Mars).

Problem is, i don't like strange encounters at the moment.
And joining a TS server would be even worse.

I'm not playing "solo" because of the game or peoples behaviour.
I don't even play "PvE Group".
It's just me.
But like i said, i still have faith that i'll get back to my normal self someday.
Untill then it's better for everyone if i keep playing in my lonely universe :)

Unfortunately it's still going. What is your opinion on how the issues Open players face could be solved?

I went through a long period of depression when I was in my 20's. While I didn't like interacting with real people I got more involved with multiplayer games (initially just typing) and eventually joined a gaming group and started having chats in the teamspeak server and made friends with people who were generally older than me. I think it was an important step in making me more social. It was a small step that led to me becoming a social animal again.

Your version of the game doesn't have any winning :p

Participation trophies for all!

I win by being able to play the game the way i want to.
My win is located in RL.
I don't need no trophys in a game... or the feeling of being "superior".

As if Elite was a game about winning.

From its first version it was a game about setting your own objectives, about finding what you want to do; competing with other players doesn't need to even factor in this.

The modern version of Elite certainly has competition between players, whether direct through combat or indirect through making credits or advancing a CG/Powerplay objective.

Isn't it? :)

And good luck winning "Elite".

Thanks Jorlin. I will try my best.

When I want competition I play a game designed for that - World of Tanks or Mortal Kombat X at the moment. I don't load up Elite, which has terribly unbalanced PvP (Vultures vs Sidewinders? Really?) due the aforementioned lack of design in PvP. Playing Elite as a PvP game, then believing you've "won" a competitive contest of skill, is indulging in delusions of grandeur, however tiny those delusions are.

It also has mode switching built into it from the design stage onwards. Mode switching predates CG/PP in fact. Meaning that they were adding in the full knowledge that players can switch modes. PP was released (almost) knowing that some small number of players had a problem with mode switching in CGs. PP still goes ahead.
