My Asp vs a fully loaded Python!

Greetings CMDRs,

I thought you might all want to see this EPIC battle I had with a Python while flying my Asp. Enjoy!

one tip for you.. put your FSD interdicter on your same trigger and firegroup as all your cannons. Frees up a trigger during combat.

You are a good pilot, a very good pilot with any doubt.

But i hate those who try to kill others without any reason nor demand... Unless you were hunting bounty hunters...

Well, fly safe commander, and good luck un tour crimsom life.

Wait, James Tiberio? Looks like I missed out on an interesting fight there. I saw you interdict him and I was considering jumping in to help him out, but seeing as you'd just wiped the floor with me in my Vulture...

Yes, CMDR Matt Mason here, that god-awful pilot you swatted out of the skies ;)

So, you streamed the fight with Tiberio? That means...

Just as I thought. It looks to me like your viewers got to witness my not-so-epic failure. I hope they had fun mocking me, because I certainly did so myself after I respawned :p

I don't usually do PvP, preferring to stick to RESs, but I saw that Wolf 406 wasn't far away from where I typically reside so I thought I'd have a little go of that community goal. I'd have stayed to fight you in my Asp, but I'd rather not have lost my cargo. Besides, you outclassed my Vulture (which has since seen some upgrading...), so there was no way my Asp was going to hold up. Before now, the only PvP I've been a part of included one or two ships at conflict zones and more recently warding off a pretty poorly equipped Python after they decided to interdict me, so... not all that much experience in the field.

Hopefully the next time I come across someone as dangerous as you and your Asp, I'll be better equipped.

You put up a great fight and I commend you for actually fighting and not instantly running away like so many do when they meet me. I look forward to our next encounter!

I should probably complain about how fast turns are with FA off it just feels like an unnecessary game mechanic. What I can't get over though even from flying my own Asp is the damage while ramming other ships. I've taken out ships almost completely with a single boosted ram and hardly lose any shields it makes me wonder if this is really correct. Typically I would think both pilots would want to avoid ramming at all costs and that's what makes it seem a little unrealistic to me. I kind of feel like ramming a Python with an Asp would be like throwing an egg against a brick wall. Pulling of a glancing ram at the proper moment is tactical but I also feel like it's a behavior I've been picking up more often in combat where there's a lack of other options.

Great video, thanks. I assume you're not running Gimballed beams on your main hardpoints to free up power for SCBs? I've got a similar setup.

I tip my hat to you, Commander. It was was an intense battle and you sir are a hell of a fighter. :)

I'm still wondering, what mistakes I had in my tactic, that led to this outcome and I'm sure there are several. First of all I heavily underestimated, how many hits a properly fitted Asp can take. During the fight I had sometimes the feeling that I do next to no damage. Secondly I also underestimated the effectivness of your all cannon setup. I'm nomally do PVE combat and like to stay close and personal. Seems to be a very bad idea against 6 cannons...
My next failure obviously was, that my aiming with the rails was really bad. I seriously need to practice more with them. Also I always forget to use chaff in the right moment. Maybe I would have bought more time to wear down you shield cells if I used them more adequat. If you spot more more failures on my side, feel free to comment about it ;)
Anyway, congratz to you. I look forward to meet you again. Hopefully my PVP skills will have become better next time.

I agree the current ramming mechanics seem off, does too much damage versus using weapons alone. If weapon damage and engagement ranges were increased I think it would dissuade the use of ramming.

It definitely seemed like some of those cannon shots could have been dodged had the range been kept larger, but it would have been a long battle/stalemate.

You did an excellent job yourself James! It was an intense battle for sure!

I bet you'll be even tougher the next time we meet. I look forward to another round!

Thats cool and all but I have a question
-
Ive interdicted you multiple times in my fer de lance (probably 6-7 times in total since January) and once in my python but you always ran straight away except the one time you interdicted me with 3 of your friends
-
Just curious as to why when you say other people run from you all the time

I've flown a Viper pretty much my entire Elite: Dangerous career. (since beta) My Viper simply does not have the ammo necessary to go up against your Fer-de-Lance.

I decided to get an Asp a few days ago in order to branch out from Lave cluster and check out the community events. I'm willing to fight your FDL in my Asp anytime.

Let me know when you want to throw down. :D

Ok fair enough, I'm actually flying a Python nowadays anyway but if I see you I'll take you up on your offer :)

You can turn almost as fast with FA on. FA off just lets you carry over the boost rotational momentum longer than the boost lasts.

I kind of feel like ramming a Python with an Asp would be like throwing an egg against a brick wall.

Mass and shield strength aren't that far apart, if the python isn't maxed out on shields/boosters, and if the python isn't running four SYS pips, ramming a fully padded Asp that is can be dangerous.

He's running six gimbaled cannon, some of the lowest power and lowest heat weapons there are.

Great video, and I love the ending too.

I bet your boost button is worn out though ;)

How is your Asp outfitted shield wise? A6 with boost?
