Hostile in Federation

I've been considered hostile by the Federation for months now and I feel it's time to make peace. I've tried being nice, but if I so much as sneeze in Federation space it's enough to upset every cop in the area.
As a consequence I've had to sell my services to the Empire to get by, and I'm no royalist.
How do I go about making reparations with the Federation?

Well, since it's the Federation, money talks. :p

But for the average Joe CMDR, it means doing lots and lots of bulletin board missions and bounty hunting for the Feds. Find a nice cluster of Fed worlds and make note of the Fed sub factions who are in control. Run every mission you can between them. Of course if you're hostile or worse you'll have to dock at outposts because stations will blow you to dust. And even then they won't have many missions for you because "this faction does not trust you enough." So your best bet is to turn in a bunch of bounties for the feds. Find a neutral RES somewhere and K-scan everybody to build up a stack of Fed bounties. Turn them in at the above mentioned outposts and it will improve your rep with them. Keep doing it until your rep with them improves to neutral and you'll start getting Fed faction missions. Don't take missions that will send you places you can't deliver, i.e. to Federation stations. Outpost to outpost, or outpost to non-aligned systems.

After that, wash, rinse, repeat. You can't rebuild your rep with the whole Federation from one station. Improve your rep at one station as far as you can, then move on to the next. Getting in good with enough sub factions will eventually move your rep with the overall Federation higher. It will take a long time and a lot of work, but it can be done.

Good luck!

Also find border systems to feds, independent, empire, whatever, find a faction in those systems that's loyal to the feds and do missions for them and help them gain influence in that system, doing that alone may change your status with the whole federation.

trading also counts, not sure how fast/effective that is either, also if/when u manage to get a minor faction to allied, its time to move to the next one.

Wow. I'd realised it was going to take some time, but wow.

Thanks for the advice.

It's a lot of work. I was in the same boat with the Alliance. Took me forever to get back in their good graces, but on the bright side I made a bit of money and actually enjoyed having it as a goal to work for. With Powerplay coming up, it might actually be even more important.

Oh yeah, one other note: don't take smuggling missions even if it's for the Feds. If you get scanned, it will torpedo your primary Fed reputation even if it was a Fed subfaction that put you up to the job. That's in part how I got on the Alliance's bad side - I had a bad run of running contraband and they hated me for it.

It's a gamble those black box missions for example usually boost your rep with that faction a lot, gotta may sure you sneak for the entrance to the station. Because of his current situation I'd agree, take the simple 'find us stuff' and 'take this letter' type missions until you get back to at least neutral then do harder stuff. Also go to different systems and build rep with different factions that are all aligned with the feds.

I had that trouble it took me ages and a shed load of missions to get them to neutral . Just keep doing courier runs and trade , stay away from combat missions unless you are totally shore it wont upset anybody. In the end I moved to the Alliance for peace a quite from the feds

It is a lot easier to go down the slide to hostile than to climb up the ladder back to neutral.

Still at least you have a goal. Can you do it by the time 1.3 drops?

Is that you, Senator Patreus? ;)

For me, pretty much the same as the first reply. There's another very helpful thread around that tells you which mission types give most rep. CAn't remember them all but top ones are from supply missions from medical officers; then supply missions generally (slave supply are good ones just stick to outposts for least risk of getting caught). I started out doing missions from systems with only outposts. If you find one with say 3 outposts not too far apart you can hop between them and stack up missions from all (if you have the cargo space, I did it in Asp with 64 cargo I think). Basically keep doing them till you get allied with one of them. By that stage you'll be friendly with others. Then look for another system. I think it took me getting allied with 5 or 6 minor factions to go from hostile to just friendly. It's a lot of work but if you stack up the missions then some may overlap in terms of where you need to go or what you need to supply.
Takes a long time. Most frustrating thing is you can't see your progress, just that little blue up arrow - so it always feels like it'll never come. But it does eventually!

Obv do missions only for FED aligned sub factions.

Find a federation out post adn do mission for them until allied. Then find another and so on.

Go exploring for a week far out of human space and sell your data where you want to gain rep
Worked for me althogh i never got hostile to any faction.
Good luck

I was in the same boat as you. After a minor misunderstanding over some illicit cargo, my rep went from nutral to hostile with the Federation. I brought my rep back up by selling rare cargo and exploration data to outposts ( just make sure the faction controlling the outpost is a Federation faction in your system view map ). Once I'd get one outpost up to unfriendly I'd move on to the next one. It don't remember how many outposts I had to change my rep at, but it was quite a few. Right now I'm finally back up to nutral and running trade routes in Federation space, which will also bring up rep.
