Community Event / Creation Sidewinder Sundays: Cheap Dogfighting Action!

Alright so I was recently bellyaching about the fact that there really is not much use for the loveable starter craft. So I figured I'd give it one. I always loved the nippy fights against other players and would love to see what kind of shenanigans people can pull off in these little guys. So I am hosting a fightclub.

This will take place at Apam Napat, originating at the Fan Station. simply go there, find another Sidewinder and challenge them, goa few KM from the stations and have a blast. Make sure to tell your competitor whether it is to shields down, a certain % hull, or to the death.

Worst case situation? You lost the insurance on a sidewinder.

I love this idea but you should put the time in GMT for everyone to easily figure out their own times. Also is this a high tech station? If not consider finding one so people can outfit the startwinders.

The location was chosen primarily because it is gobsmackingly beautiful, but I believe there is actually a high tech station nearby.

Angel Rose runs a sidewinder destruction derby every now and again , basic sidewinder , no weapons , no shields , everyone round and round the 'circle' just outside the letter box at the bigger stations....trying to clip/push the others to into destruction..could be another idea for you.

7:00 p.m. EDT is 1:00 a.m. CEST / 0:00 a.m. BST.

Today this would work for many of us due to tomorrows bank holiday. On a standard week-end, this is borderline for most.

Why not give it a try today and decide about rescheduling for next weekend.

Sounds interesting. But I would suggest that the Sidewinders should not be modified.

1st of all it's a fair fight then and
2nd it takes too much time to get back, modify your Sidewinder and fly back to the battlegrounds.

I understand 1st, but not 2nd. Claim your insurance and you get exactly the load-out at the time of destruction, takes the same time as taking a free Sidey

Yeah, but tomorrow is Whit/Pentecost Monday in Europe and many people don't have to work. Except for FD of course, they have to wrap up 1.3beta.

Well, everyone seems positive and excited for the event with the caveat of the time.

The Issue is, the time wasn't picked randomly, it is when I am available on Sundays. I knew it was late night for some of EU, but a lot of people are up that late anyways.

I do apologize but I suppose it wouldn't be unreasonable for those this is inconvenient to set a 2nd time targeting EU.

Sorry but this isn't a freewinder competition. Sidewinders are crazy cheap to modify and upgrade and that is the point. It is set at a station, so just go there first and if you blow up, you spawn there; or as I said in the original post, tell the other fellow it isn't to the death (we stop at 30% hull, ect.)

I wanna see what people do with their little guys, considering powermanagement is tight, so just beefing up all factors of it isn't necessarily the best idea. There isn't much room for extras like boosters and chaff and shield cells and class 1 weapons have a large diverse selection.

For those looking to outfit your Sidewinder for the fight, Roengen Horizons in Lorden system has practically everything you need one short jump away. While Apam Napat is a high tech location, it's selection of low class high rating stuff is pretty meh, but has any and all weapons you may need.

Thanks to the fine folks that popped out this evening. Had a lot of fun and I think next week "No shield cells" will definitely be a rule. Just drew out fights awkwardly.

May be widen the availability may be we can just designate this station as the place to go to do this whenever, or if not find a more suitable one.

Hm, something like a designated duel ground? Interesting, but participants have to agree on the time in advance, like: Lasers at dawn!

This station is in a beautiful setting with two ringed planets circling each other (rings tilted differently). It is also a military outpost. Flying into the no-fire zone during the duel might get you killed by the guards. Some might prefer this extra risk.

One demerit is, that changing guns requires flying 100 ls or so to the nearby Coriolis. Hence we discussed yesterday, to move the duels to the Coriolis, which would also provide more parking spaces.

Enough of the criticism: Though it was really late in my location (1:00-3:00 a.m.) I had a lot of fun. Also, I am thankful for CMDR Ilseroth for coming up with the idea in the first place.
If more Europeans are interested in Sidewinder Sundays, we could have the EU League before the US one. How about same time, different zone, like 7:00 p.m. BST?
The winners have to stay up late and have at least 1 match against the US CMDRs.

Of course everyone is never going to be catered for but perhaps a UK event could be an idea as others have suggested, and as others have also mentioned perhaps somehow combine a Europe vs USA scenario, even adding wings of Sidewinders in the contest. I'll keep an eye on this thread see if anyone wants to take up the mantle of organising something for a GMT 7pm, if not perhaps I'll do it.

I spent 6 hrs in Leesti/Lave area and I got 2 fights. I interdicted any KWS ship I thought could fight me and none were interested. I had to pull over FDL and Clipper just to get those 2 fights and I was in a viper. 2 hours after that I managed to get 3 duels with a python and it was very entertaining. I'm nearly done with this game but something like this would have me at least log in once a week.

I wanted to build a site that would have a leaderboard and rankings.
I have a site now that's not used but really anyone can put a site up these days.
If it had a leaderbaord and rankings then we could get proper interest from pvp and some pve alike.

If we do it for fun to start of with, it would be great for those pve guys who wouldn't mind a little try at pvp.
Also, a reason to buy a paintjob for a sidewinder.
I've already heard strangers talk about the sidewinder pvp event.
I'm well up for sidewinder and Eagle pvp. Bring it on.

I'll help where I can, even if its just turning up to provide numbers, maybe I can do more.
