I think it was really just to get a quick footprint in the market. Once you've staked out your space you can then manage the development around other priorities.
At least that's what I think it going on. Could be completely wide of the mark.
In time I think it'll get the attention it deserves, but it's not going to be today. Or tomorrow.
Now that the Mac version is out, and Powerplay is being released, the devs might have a little time to improve the app.
We shall see.

Also when a new thing is launched one of the first things many people ask is "Is there an app for this?"
And if the answer is no you turn off some people. If you can say yes then you're keeping those people on side.
It doesn't really matter if the app isn't perfect at that point. Obviously it does matter whether it's working or not but at that specific point all you need is the ability to answer the question in the affirmative.
Marketing job done.
Then you can devote resources to development of the app when other priorities have slackened off a little.
That's what I reckon has happened anyway.
