Frustrated to No end!

Finally got to SOL system, or at least close to it, only to find its locked to entry..... ok. Youtube gave me an answer, Federation! gotta get rep and they will finally contract out to me. Went to nearby systems, got my rep up, and FINALLY got the mission for my first Rank up.

So, I gotta get some "Combat Stabilizers" and bring em back to the station... sounds easy enough... <Galaxy Map> searching..... searching..... Hmm... they seem to be Prohibited Everywhere, and when they Arent prohibited... they are not available to purchase.

One thing I find this game lacks, Information. I understand its a Sandbox, yet, when Any commodity in Any game or real life is considered Prohibited.... there is always someone with Information.. yet this game offer's nothing. So after 2 hours of searching, I failed the contract... Thanks Frontier!

Its one thing to be Realistic, yet another to be unreasonable. Give us some Central hub for information reguarding these things, or for a tip or Pointer.... Put the location(s) that MIGHT have the item in the Contract explanation... I got better things to do then fly all over the damn galaxy or starring at a star chart looking for a place to buy this stuff when im on my Precious few hours of being off work. Almost feels like a waste of 60 bucks, Please prove me wrong!

2nd the Thrudds tool. You would have been done that mission in 30 mins. Considering its prohibited, its not surprising it hard to find in an area that bans it.

As a fairly new person to this game, I can definitely say that Thrudds is my #1 go to when it comes to finding a commodity. Also, if you need a black market or other station service it will help you find the nearest one to your current position. Don't forget to try to evade the scans too if the station you're bringing the combat stabilizers back to prohibits them.

A tip that many many seem to overlook it seems, usually, like 99% of the time as far as my mission experience the thing a mission wants you to get is also something that there is demand for in the station you are in, go to the commodity market, and look for the item, find where it is "produced by" and where it is "Imported from"

Produced by will allow you to use the galaxy map to only view systems with that type of economy.
Imported by, will give you a system name where they sell it, though some times it is only passing through that system, but that system will tell you where they import it from.

A bit late now but the only systems that carry combat stabilizers are high tech economies that have a government type of Anarchy or Dictatorship which are very few.

I would just go here: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Commodities, and found where they were available to be gotten from, then looked in all the systems which economies matched until I found them for sale. If they buy them at the station you get the mission from, they might even TELL you which systems they import them from! I have done this all through my ranking in Empire and Federation. So I never needed the help of third party tools to find what I needed to complete the missions. :)

It's a sad day in gaming when a player needs to rely upon a 3rd party tool to complete an in-game activity.
You don't need a 3rd party tool, it just makes things faster. What would have taken 30 using a tool would take between 30-hour just using ingame info.

the information supplied at that site for commodities is available in game. in fact, the games even tells you by name what system supplies said commodities.

Not sure I understand why third party tools are necessary. Why doesn't the game have this level of information for the player?

Design decision at least in part. FD wanted a certainly level of obfuscation in things, make the players discover things for themselves instead of being spoon-fed. There have been some improvements since launch but its not something i think they have any plans to make serious changes to (trading).

The idea is you go out there and find your own trade routes, and a good trader would never advertise their good trade routes to avoid people swaming it and destroying their profits. Strangely enough, instead what happened is people started sharing their trade information with others. I'd guess FD were mildly surprised by this turn of events.

Personally i avoid all third party tools (given them a look at), but there again, i've not done much trading, I find it pretty boring and I don't make gaining credits my goal (what for? So i can get an Anaconda? Pfft). The only third party tool that i find invaluable is edshipyard.

This thread wasn't about trading, it was about fulfilling missions.
And none of us would dare to say, that a new player will find things needed easily.
You have to learn alot before you know where to look for the informations that are given in game as well as how to interpret them.
I can fully understand FDs decision, but I can also understand every new player that is overwhelmed at first.

As this is still a game, that eats away alot of time, I would have nothing against more details in mission descriptions, such as:

- target station type (deliveries, to prevent you from accepting if you cannot dock there)
- nearest target commodity export systems
- a caution marker when it come to potential illicit cargo (salve missions i.e.)

Yes, you can find all this information in game. When you know where to look for it.
Remember not everyone out there has the time to get as deep into the game as most of us do.
Seeing the quest systems in other games and the established "hint"-box where you can find your quest target in the world show that this function is wanted....and sometimes needed with massive gameworlds.

LEt's see what changes 1.3 brings though.
