So I decided to ditch the sidewinder and move into a more capable ship for trading and reliable defense features. I went with the adder (cheaper option). Plan to save up and purchase a viper for bounty hunting as a secondary ship.
My issue now is figuring out why I'm suddenly having issues with my FSD. Upgraded to a D3 FSD right away and did a run or two of trading some tech stuff and can't remember what else. Worked fine, no issues. However I load up on some beryllium, about 8 tons worth and my FSD is suddenly saying I'm not able to make a 13ly jump because of mass. Do certain commodities vary in weight? The marketplace doesn't seem to mention any of that data. I checked my ships capabilities and it shows I'm able to haul up to 20t. I've tried selling off some cargo to lighten the load to be up to be lower than the FSD requirements but still no luck. Any suggestions or tips?

As far as I know all cargo weighs thee same, so 1 ton of grain will weigh the same as 1 ton of gold.

Your jump range will decrease as you load up your ship though as it will increase its mass.

If you press 4 to bring up the info screen and go to functions, it will have your jump range there, the number in brackets is your unladened and single jump range, the number not in brackets should be your current jump range.

Also in the galaxy map you can view your jump range under the navigation part of it I think, not currently at my pc so can't check, but I'm almost certain its that's..

To increase your jump range, but a better fsd (obviously). Also get some more D class stuff, say sensors, life support, shields and what ever you don't really need. D class items have the least mass.

I would maybe run something like this, don't be afraid of downgrading, say the power plant or the thrusters or shields to get a lighter part, have a mess about with the below, I'm sure there's better fittings than this though.
