Anyone other than me planning to clear save when 1.3 arrives?

Sadly this game give you no reason to start all over....and if you feel like you want to start all over, simply dump all your money in a ship and crash it....so you keep your status/factions and such, but starting with no money.

The reset thing for me is simply not just about credits, yes I will clear my save for 1.3 and lose my ships and money but I also want to reset my ranks back to zero. Crashing my ship wouldn't do that. Clearing the save does :)

Actually it is the Faction Rankings and Rep I want to Clear.
If there was an easy way to do that I would but MB said Clearing one's save was the only option.

I may change my mind once I try the Beta, but at the moment it feels odd I returned to the Empire with a ton of Exploration data and it was bacically, only complete these 7 cargo runs and we'll call you a Baron

I'll be carrying on with my save. I haven't really been grinding or using any trading tools or guides, just been doing whatever takes my fancy.

I've just tricked out my Dropship and it would be a shame to destroy it it and my little fleet of ships. Plus i'm the bane of several local pirate factions and i would miss the death squads coming after me:)

I am a casual player, playing a few hours a week. Started on launch day basically.
What I have enjoyed the most from the game has been the little play, the constant development and building up of credits from slaving away, buying a C upgrade thruster from D for the Viper, or finally having enough money to buy point-defence on the T6 while doing rare trade runs.

However, it is a little boring having to start Power Play with credits already, completely missing out on the content as a fresh Sidewinder pilot.
So I thought about completely clearing my save, despite having only 6-7 mil credits in the bank atm. Could be fun to try and haul myself up through the ladder from scratch with all of the new player base (which didn't exist in December) using Power Play as a crutch.

What are you going to do when Power Play comes out?

TLDR; Clearing my save when PP arrives, what are you going to do to spice up your Elite love life come 1.3 (pun intended)?

It's a little extreme, but perhaps no more extreme than wiping your hard earned save, but you could simply buy another copy of E:D and start a fresh without making such a huge decision you might regret. I'm not suggesting buying a whole new copy is a viable option to some in a financial sense, but simply starting from scratch again is a profound thing to do. Noticing this thread shocked me a little so I hope you have really thought about this, but respect to you if you do decide to do it in the end.

I don't think wiping a save is extreme. Some people just prefer the challenging beginning. After you got your first fully upgraded Asp/Vulture there is not much you have to fear (except PvP). Even a Cobra is sufficient to kill any NPC. Wiped several times and never felt like I lost something hard earned... I had always fun playing the game and will have fun in doing it again.

I don't think that I will reset, but it will be fun to see how I can use powerplay as an advantage in my fluctuating elite lifestyle.

It is 'just virtual stuff'. While i don't plan on wiping my save at the moment i do lament the fact i got easy route to max rank in the Empire.

Playing since Beta for a while the ranks didn't work, then they worked too quick and you could advance a rank almost every stop and then they slowed right up to current levels.

I think i only had to 'work' for the last two ranks and if you can call delivering intel to the next system 'work'.

I think its a Beta attitude, we had to wipe many times and while there were a lot of grumbles people sure enough got right back on the horse and enjoyed the challenge. Back in my WoW days i preferred leveling over end game content and frequently started a new character rather than play a max level one.

For me to wipe i would need considerably more content for the lower end, maybe once all the ships are in and the mission system is fully fleshed out there won't be so many 'grindy gaps' and it will feel natural going from bottom to top and it will be worth starting again.

If I'm "Allied" status with all three major factions (or powers?), Alliance, Feds and Empire, is that going to be a problem with the new update?

I would think that doing missions a faction would lower your reputation for the other ones

Yeah I kinda agree, "extreme" perhaps not, to use such an extreme word to descibe something that is in my opinion still quite a big decision let's say is perhaps a bit.. well extreme. I totally and wholeheartedly agree that once you pass the "tricky" stage and have saved enough for said Cobra/Viper there isn't much of a challenge thereafter (concerning PvNPC (PVE?)), which kind of eludes as to the game's mechanics and ethos perhaps need 'yet more' balancing, so we can still find a challenge that comes with the jeapardy, (i.e deciding not to fit SCBs on your current craft or why just buying a Sidewinder with 10 mill (plus) in the bank, just doesn't quite feel like you are risking anything so wouldn't really serve to give us that immersion and "feeling" returning).

So yes, I too would clear my save to try to regain and rekindle those old feelings at the start of the game where every decision needed to be calculated carefully, I simply haven't the guts to do it, which is why I have the utmost respect for anyone willing TO do it to give themselves a challenge again. It's a shame that this is the only real option to get that real jeopardy back. Simply put, NPCs need to be much harder to combat, but I suppose a relatively mediocre computer brain (ai code) that works in the context of a huge game can never outwit a real person once we've learnt this "behaviour" again, we can of course think and learn on the fly and no matter how well simulated this 'ai' behaviour is could never do the same. The challenge only really comes when we are at a disadvantage.

NO!! To much hard work for me to just wipe my save! All those hours of play, close to Elite in exploration and Combat... Trading a little further behind... Goal all 3 Elite...

Might do, it depends if PP will be more fun starting again or not.
The beta will give me a clue.

Currently working my way to a Python (worth about 50Mcr, so stil about another 20Mcr to get I think), so I still have a short term goal.

Not for Powerlpay, no.

But I probably will reset at some point:

1) When military missions will be fully fleshed out.
I want to experience/enjoy the whole military career and this is not possible, if I am high-ranked already. The "store a big ship"-trick won't do it, as it doesen't reset ranks. I know that there will be new missions related to military rankings in 1.3. But this will be just the start with the new, more scaleable game mechanic implemented and there (probably) will be even more fleshed-out missions in future updates.

2) When a) the "walk-your ship"-expansion was launched and b) the Oculus Rift is plugged to my computer.
This will give me a strong incentive to play and explore the game afresh. If I would continue playing with my current (wealthy) commander, I know I would simply buy one ship after the other, walk around and just think "Oh, nice... and now the next one...". This is not fun. I want to be excited about being able to afford a new ship and satisfy my curiosity.
(The "fake"-resart won't do it neither, as there would always be the temptation to "cheat" myself and even if I don't, the knowledge of the mere possibility will spoil the experience for me. I know, this is my own fault and maybe a flaw in my charakter. But that's how I am...)

All in all, I like "the beginning" quite a bit. When everything is unsettled and - while actual options are limited - the possibilities are countless and all goals still to be reached...
(I was even a bit sad, when I finally was able to buy the Phyton. Not that I don't love the ship or I which, I wouldn't own it. But still...)

ED is too much of a grind to reset for 1.3. As an aside: if we have to reset to enable the "level" progression feature (mentioned in the latest newsletter), then FD have got it wrong. (In fact, since ED has been on full release since 16 December, then any kind of reset now is out of the question.)

I may clear save. I have a Vulture and a Clipper but feel that none of it was a grind. Just great fun. I can have just as much fun flying a sidewinder/eagle as I do any other ship. Also doing all the ranks again with a better and more immersive mission system maybe fun as well. Think I will check out the beta first and decide then if it's worth it.

Restarting once powerplay hits the public release.. yayor nay?

Reading the changelog, it seems like Powerplay will change a lot of stuff - especially in terms of how the rank-up, level-up and faction reputation systems function. As well as mission scaling, and mission types, and functionality..

In short, powerplay seems to make sweeping changes to the journey from beginner to "top-rank multimillionaire player"...
So maybe it's worth it to restart the save once powerplay hits, in order to get the full new ranking-system experience, and see the missions scale up as you advance, rather than being fixed at a set "allied rep elite rank" point you achieved 2 months ago...

On the other hand, don't quite want to lose the exploration accomplishments.

Thoughts? Are you also thinking about restarting from scratch? (Alternately - anyone know of a way to drop military ranking with empire & federation back to 0, and get reputation down to neutral?)
