Ships Imperial Courier

Surely it makes more sense to nerf the Vulture rather than buff everything else?

they won't nerf the vulture, there would be too much whine compared to the demand to make it OP then extremely cheap, they managed with the python because very few people owned one at the time (though the ships they are adding make it seem strange they nerfed it)

this looks like a flat replacement to the viper, like why is every new ship vastly better than the previous ones? Its almost got as much shielding as a python :p (probably won't upgrade as far but still huge)

I have a feeling we will hear lots of crying when the true price of this ship will be revealed. I suspect in the 20m range (with reputation requirements on top). Still to me would be justified

Whoever said the Cobra is FDs baby called it. This replaces an eagle but doesn't compare to a cobra. And if there is a rank requirement for it then why would i even bother with it. There are better options out there with less of a hassle. Pretty ship? Yes. But beyond flying it for the sake of "Look at my shiny" What's the point?

Dunno why so many people are disappointed by the new ships. The Imperial Courier is a lot better than what I personally expected. I'm stuck about whether to replace my Viper with the Asp, Diamondback or Courier (ruled out the Vulture already).

the courier was the big uber ship from elite 2. This ship is small. Its looks quite nice for what it is, but it isn't what I thought the courier would be, something more like the FDL is what I thought you might get.
Everyone else complaining is because they have 10s or 100s or millions of credits and want a much more expensive ship.

it was me :p yep the cobra is 8/10 at everything, and add a 10/10 at speed xD nothing will ever be as strong/balanced

but from what i see the courier seems pretty good

Shield isn't as giant as I thought:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=147568&p=2278260&viewfull=1#post2278260

FDL shields at now are 271
Vulture shields are 293
Vulte cost 5 mln, FDL cost 55 mln

I feel like they moved the default shield slot from the 4 to the 5 on the vulture, which is where the difference is coming from (the fdl can still move it up to the 5)

If you move the FDL's up to the 5 you get

FDL: 355
vulture 295

which I think is what the numbers were on release for the two ships, something doesn't stack here either way, you can probably go find the old threads with the screenshots in and compare - infact i might do it myself right now.

I think the 'combat focus' is coming from the way people are kitting it out? It seems like if you want to focus it on combat it does reasonabyl well at the role, but it equally does just as well in other roles... exactly like a multi-role should :)

The question is whether or not it's TOO good at one or another... Courier vs. Vulture in combat sounds like something I'd be interested in seeing... I don't suspect it's too good in combat though as the Vulture has the advantage against larger ships with the 2 large HPs

Tell me if I did the math wrong... but...

According to wiki (I know it's not that accurate, but better than nothing)

Shield Strength = Base Shield Value + Modifier

Modifier = Optimal Shield Mass - Ship Mass

So...

Modifier = 165 (A3 Shield Optimal Mass) - 35 (Courier Ship Mass)

Modifier = 130

Base Shield Strength = 230 (Courier's)

Shield Strength = 230(Base Shield Strength) + 130(Modifier)

Shield Strength = 360

W...WOT?!?!?!

With 4 Shield Boosters...

0.2*4=0.8
360+360*0.8=648

...

This math better be wrong!

I have just seen it. To my eye it is ugly, looks all bumpy and misshapen:
