Ships Imperial Courier

I don't have beta, so, in a scale from 1 to 10, how do you guys rate this ship in each of the following fields?

Trading
Exploring
Speed
Maneuverability
Defense
Attack

(Edit: Sorry misread initially, just put the 6 points into a ranking order, not a 1-10 evaluation.)

1. Defense
(long pause)
2. Speed
3. Maneuverability
4. Attack
5. Trading
6. Exploring

1. It has very powerful shields for its size, and the power to support 2 A rated shield boosters, possibly even 3 (depending on the weapons used).
2. It's speed is decent. Not outstanding, but also not slow. A bit faster than a lightly built Vulture, but slower than a Viper. FYI the Diamondback is faster than a Viper.
3. Agility feels the same as the Cobra. Decent turn rate but nothing exceptional. Again, the Diamondback wins in this department, probably only outturned by a Vulture, Eagle and Sidewinder.
4. Offensive power is not bad if you add kinetic weapons of some sort. the class 3 power distributor is already hard at work with just 3 pulse lasers, The hardpoints are decently placed for both gimballed and fixed loadouts, but you must build around the bottleneck that is the power distributor. The power plan is more than enough, class 4 like the Cobra.
5. Trading. If you want to use it for pure trading, you can regard this as a faster, tougher Adder with a lower jump range. Makes a bad rares trader. I repeat: The Courier is a really bad rares trader!
6. Exploring. Easily beaten by a Hauler or Adder, which both are beaten by the new Diamondback, too.

So, is the Courier cheaper to upgrade than a Cobra mkiii?

Yes, but the high base price puts it in the same ballpark cost wise (upper single digit millions fully equipped).

Have to go through the module list to be sure, but I'd expect it to be a bit more expensive. My fully grade A Cobra is usually around the 10 million mark. This thing worth 2 million can't be more than 15-20 million to get into good spec, I should imagine.

My opinions for you

Speed - 6-9 depending on build (lighter the better)
Maneuverability - 9 (probs equal to eagle)
Attack - 7 (good attack ability but bad weapon convergence against small ships, just about small enough to hit both wings with wing bound rails on a eagle)
Defence - 8 (good utility number and hull and shield strength (hull boosted by armour))
Exploring - 6 (stripped down its good, but you'd probs need stuff)
Trading - 5 (personally i think its inefficient, but when we get passengers i think it will be good)

No. The most expensive piece of gear is the class 4 power plant, everything else is basically class 3. A-rated Courier may end up the same or even slightly cheaper than an A-rated Cobra.

This illustrates all that is wrong with the "courier".

If anything, she excels in small scale dogfights and is poor for moving small packages or VIPs around. Nobody buys courier ships for combat.

What we have here today is the Imperial Skirmisher, not a courier.

Simple, it describes a large number of ships. That's why he'd think that. Ok, it's maybe not quite the same, unless there was a ship christened ISS Imperial Courier at one point, to serve as the class-name ship, like the USS Constitution in Star Trek was the first ship of the Constitution class (and it works the same way in today's navies)... but who says there wasn't?
Look up the word "courier" in a dictionary and tell me with a straight face that it is something that a navy would ever name a warship after.

Not really i think as a VIP id want something that can protect me from getting shot to death.

And how would you want a Vulture to bring somebody to his' destination? It's the slowest ship there is and the jump range is even worse.

And where, exactly, are you going to put a passenger in the Vulture?

There is ample room just in that big cockpit alone. Or you remove that SCB and install a passenger compartment, still much safer than the Courier will ever be. :D

Just few words from another Elite2 fan and old geek ;)
I'm very disappointed at how this Courier looks like.. In old Elite2 Courier was the most elegant, deadly and classy heavy fighter. It's huge engines were something unique, no other ship had ones like Courier. Actually the whole Courier was an unique ship, in every of its aspect. And it was big.
This one here, well.. If it only would be named with another name, for example Scout or Pup or anything else, then that would be fine for me. But Courier? It looks nothing like old Courier. I know, that in 100 years some things changed. But then there should be still few old style Couriers around, for people like me for example ;)

Slowest? No, I'm pretty sure the Python, Anaconda, T6, T7 and T9 are slower. And the FDL has worse jump range.

yep, compared to these ships, the Vulture is pretty balanced after all, it's not for nothing that i choose it right after my old viper

Edit edit: ?! Courier is slower than Cobra?! ABSOLUTELY FRIGGING ABSURD! Why can't they ever make a ship what it's supposed to be?

Apparently a lot of people are satisfied with it being a courier in name only. It is really just an Eagle+ that gets obsoleted after you participate in a community goal and can afford a vulture.
