I fear collector limpets and turrets are going to be nerfed...

:D because mining is almost too much fun now...

I've been testing a fully kitted mining anaconda in the beta and these pesky little ships scanning you are being swatted like the little insects they are.

While the limpet collect your stones, any ship that dare attack you turn hostile.

As the new "target only" mode for turrets work to perfection now, I don't even have to move the anaconda and quietly look at the cargo hold filling with minerals while pesky vermins die trying to get what is mine.

:D I am finally living my fantasy... for now... (I hope they don't nerf that... It would be sad...)

So your ideal is to sit there and watch progess bars fill up? I recommend that "disk format" game, you'd probably love it. Or the well known MMO, "bittorrent".

Details about the collector Limpets? How do they work?

You have to sacrifice some cargo space to house a controller (if I understand well). Then you have to buy limpets ~100 cr a piece(beta pricing might be different from actual price...)

Higher rated limpets last longer. The A rated limpet is active for 600 seconds I think. You have to assign a fire group. It launches like a missile and fly to the nearest lump of rock and bring it to the cargo scoop.

I might have slightly misunderstood the in game description as I thought the limpet would be stored like the ammo for a missile launcher. But I think they actually occupy cargo space.

So for the moment, I have a cargo hold full of limpet and 2 tons of low price minerals...:D

You can deploy upto 3 (maybe even 4 or 5 with very High Class Collector Internals? Class 5A gave me 3 max. simultaneously, which I didn't even need), which will automatically scoop up any of your mined Fragments into the open Cargo bay.

Refinery still needs the oldschool, manual operation - but things go much faster now.
Once the right amount of Limpets is assessed (each takes 1 ton of Cargo space) vs. expected Metals/Minerals mined... You can now fill even a Type-9 Mining Rig with them.

The only caviat : each Collector Drone's lifetime is limited (different Internal Classes and Grades exist), so they'll eventually get used up (Class 5A Collectors results in something like ~1.5km Range and 1180sec lifetime per Drone, if I remember correctly).

with collector drones you don't need a refinery anymore ?

Are they a 1 off thing? I.E. They grab 1 fragment and then are "used" or multiple fragments/limpet?

They can be set to "collect all in range" and have a range and life span so can collect more than one chunk

with collector drones you don't need a refinery anymore ?

Still need the refinery, the manual part was reference you still need to chose which materials go in the hopper and which get dumper

And I was more refering to my fantasy of a big ship with turret that are actually doing something for a change. :D

Still cackling a bit from when the multicannons and burst lasers where ripping these poor sidewinders and hauler that NPC like to use while the limpet where doing their thing.

I did have to rotate the ship from time to time to have the maximum exposure to turret fire mind you, but that's ok, for me that's part of the big ship fantasy too.
