Ships Actually courier is a better explorer ship than diamondback...

Stats:

35 T mass

fuel tank 8
power plant 4
thrusters 3
fsd 3
life 1
power dist 3
sensors 2
components:
3
3
2
2
2
1

So, let's see. It has same hull mass and FSD class as the adder, but some lighter components, and more utility slots for AFMUs, etc. Diamondback will probably slightly outjump it, but is worse in every other way. Courier fills tank in 45 seconds, Diamondback in 1 minute 30 seconds, courier has room for both shields and multiple AFMUs, Diamondback can't fit a single AFMU if it runs with a shield on top of sensors and scoop.

Diamondback needs to split its size 2 component into two size 1 components, a single size 4 slot for a scoop appropriate for a 16T tank, and I think it needs its hull mass lowered a tad.

I'm guessing they wanted to make the Courier a more attractive ship to help balance out the powers within certain factions. Most people go with fed or alliance by default. This a tactic used by many MMOs to get people to play the "bad guys". Slavers are hard to get behind - even honorable ones.

The diamondback is a disappointing ship in every possible way. Except size or maybe looks.

Watch your tongue, young man! Imperials are certainly not the "bad guys" - that sounds like the sort of propaganda the corrupt Feds would put forth, or perhaps the onionhead-smoking hippies from the Alliance.

If you'll notice. I never said that I think that Empire is evil. I only said that they could be perceived that way by many players simply because of slavery. The point being, that Empire ships are very pretty and enticing ships compared to the federal counterparts, and that seems to be by design. I actually like ugly ships, but I am not a fan of the Federation either. Nor do really like the Alliance and their hodgepodge of permissive associations. In fact, I am very curious to see which (if any) faction I will be attracted to. Maybe one that is neutral or dissociated from all of them and has it's own agenda?

No one in Elite is the "bad guy".
And thats perfect. Its full of politics.
But humans want it simple. They WANT a "bad guy" and a "good guy".
Most people think "black"<>"white", because its the simple way.
But Elite is not Star Wars, or other games with a clear "bad" and "good" faction.
I like it.

I think most of this people get imperial from other games/movies as "the bad guys".
Imperial stands in most of other works, like star wars, for "bad".
Elite will see this influence in the mind of players.

The truth about imperial "slavery" is, its not "slavery" like we know it.
Its more a form of a temp agency.

Every faction has its skeletons in the cupboard. ;)
And no one is good oder bad.

BT:
I go for empire and so i HAVE to buy the courier. :3

There are already two attractive ships in the Empire side, while there is none in Federation (you can't call the dropship an attractive option) and Alliance. The imperial clipper at least is the go to ship if you want an option between asp and Python. Its a bad decision imo.

There would be more Federal ships if Core Dynamics didn't sell out.
