My son is now obsessed with Elite...

Check out what Josh (Disappointment!) did, off his own bat, for his school homework. Teacher was completely bemused! :)

Cheers,

Drew.

Your kid gets asked to envisage what money in the future will look like for homework? Cool, that will make them think!

Better then the constant socialist brainwashing my teachers rammed down my throat for years.

Drew, your Josh is obsessed with Elite and this is a problem because,...mmmmm,....let me think.......still thinking......nope cant think of a single reason why this would be a problem. :D Great imagination there Drew, some writing competition for you in the future methinks! ;)

Would have loved to seen his teachers face

I am very impressed, this is really good. I like the variation of the polygons to help denominate value. What an awesome school project!

You may want to look and see if there are any remaining episodes of The Adventure Game hanging around, IIRC the currency in that was valued according to colour (ROYGBIV) and then number of sides on the polygon. I tell ya, children's TV isn't what it used to be. Gronda gronda rangdo.

The money Drew's son made was based on the ships and in one case, a cargo cannister.
And ah yes, The Adventure Game ... Eckno Eckno Engow, go-agay Gnob Gnib (that's how it sounded to me)

Blimey, so they are. I couldn't make out the shading until I went back after you said. Either way, it's still really clever and ties in with his idea to have the values "feelable" for blind people (last paragraph on the text).

Some of the speech was backwards: "doog yad." and some was just anagrams of the word "dragon". I have no idea why I can remember that, but my wife's birthday just won't stick. Brains are funny things.

Well done Josh!
If you want a job (in the Elite Galaxy) you can be my financial officer. Although, I think you'll probably be your own pilot. :)

Nice job! And thoughtful to consider blind people in the coin production too. His idea of money floating around you and showing off your status sounds very Imperial, I might add ;)

Now imagine in another 15 to 20 years Drew's grandson starts doing the same if Elite is still going (it is possible imho) :).

Doogyrev!!!

I see no problem with Elite and obsession... Drew really, what's the matter with you?! ;):D

Ah I loved loved loved the Adventure Game.... A fab program although somewhat bemusing at times... It was around at the same time as the original Elite as well and used BBC Micro style graphics in places...

It had Lesley Judd in it as well if I remember... A real plus!

Another similar thing around at that time that I loved was the Great Egg Race... TV isn't like it used to be is it :(
