At least wait to play powerplay before writing negatively about it

Does OP think that people without beta access shouldn't express concerns with how changes might affect their gameplay during the beta period when it is much more likely there will be developer time available to tweak them?

Yes some things it's hard to have informed opinions on without trying (drones, powerplay). But other changes (module sales tax) you don't need to try to understand what the effect would be.

You might more reasonably ask people with uninformed opinions not to express them, but I fear human nature is against you on that one.

People are just mad because Casual Players who play 6 hours a week don't get incentives as much as a person who plays 60+ hours a week.

What is it with people who haven't got beta access to powerplay yet they post on here about how bad it is or how disappointed they are with it having only read the change log!

The change log to me looks awesome and cannot wait to play and give it a go.

Please wait for the full release before reviewing a product you haven't even played yet!

Let's see. You don't like those who complain without having tested 1.3, but you fancy those(like yourself) who like 1.3 without having tested it either. That makes absolute sence. You deserve a bunch of rep for bringing surrealism in ED forums

Anyway, does one need to test 1.3 to have an opinion on 10% module penalty, for instance? Or you think that there is not enough info given from beta-testers as far as this update is concerned?

This frankly absurd statement makes no sense at all.

Are you are suggesting people who play only 6 hours a week get ten times the rewards as someone who invests 60 hours of weekly play to even things out?

Good luck finding any game with that mechanic.

I'm not a beta tester. I don't play many games on which PP's mechanics are based around so I'm not sure what to make of it. Trying to understand the process is hard work and hurts my head.

However on a general level my expectations were slightly different to what has been released. I thought it might be a more fluid real world based system where there's no 'cycle' as such, more an ongoing battle to take space over. Of course I have no clue about how you'd go about doing any of this successfully :)

As someone who loves the game but doesn't play perhaps more than 15 hours a week, I don't mind or care if those playing longer periods getting more perks, but I think there should be some mechanic or role for those playing shorter periods to be involved and/or to have an influence. Is there a chance to do that with smaller powers further out into space? I dont know.

The fact is though it's a pretty thankless task trying to get something out there that the majority of people are going to be happy with. No dev idea survives intact with it's first contact with the maddening hordes :)

I agree, I do not have "Beta" access but that was an epic change log, I am sure everything is not perfect since allot of new features were put in and will be tweaked when they have feedback on how it affects the universe.
It is crazy to me all the negativity when the developers are pushing the game to create a more alive universe, and people give them a whole lot of waaaaaa.

Remember that the dev's care allot about this game compaired to allot of the dev's I have seen over the years... AC Unity to name one :D

 Remember it will be OK and Don't Panic :D

Does it make any difference if I said I was in the beta?
Does it validate my threads any more?
Does the fact I am in Beta make my opinion that there are some massive flaws with it more valid?
After all, all I can offer is my opinion which may differ from yours vastly.

Solid and impartial info is already available from 1.3 testers. It doesn't look good. Observation, not a valid complaint. Those come from me when it launches.

Well sure it makes a difference. If you are in the beta and playing it and then reviewing that's quite different to reviewing it (positively or negatively) without even playing it yet. I'm talking mainly about PowerPlay content more than anything as of course the change log is more than just about PowerPlay content.

There are a lot of well-thought, valid criticisms of power play in the beta sub forum. This is why it's good to have a beta. Hopefully the systems will be polished quite a bit before release. Those who are being negative are doing it too soon, but so are those who are bashing the criticisms. There are a few things that Fdev will end up having to fix; let's all hope they do it during beta.

The reason is that there's a stomach bug going around in the Elite community. A whole lot of people bellyaching just to bellyache.

Quoted as a prime example of most of this thread. And it's just not true. The beta forum is full of people who have played the beta and seen the rather obvious problems it has and how it's really not that much of a change from 1.2. The new mission system is far less than I was expecting, powerplay is an unholy grindfest with questionable 'prizes' which is pretty far from the cooperative magnet for loyal commanders I was hoping for, there are several changes which take the fun element of the game away (though I accept a minority do want a hard game), there's very little in the way of new modules and the two new ships are... boring.

On the plus side there are a number of small tweaks which are very welcome such as the progression indicators to Elite, the audio has become even better and I'm personally seeing almost no stuttering at all in supercruise. I haven't tried the new mining drones yet but people are generally talking positively about them.

So there you go, the comments of one of the 1% who have played the beta.

This happens with every patch. A million things are changed and inevitably people go bananas over one of them. Remember the at times hysterical "OMG the Python is totally useless now!" debate? Now we have the 90% module resale thing ("OMG ED is doomed, noone can ever outfit anything ever anymore!"). A few reasonable suggestions are being made (keep the 90% resale price but allow people to store rather than sell reduandent modules, for example) plus a huge ammount of melodrama. In other areas it appears more meaningfull critique is being voiced, with some actual ideas for improvement. Just wait, FD will probably make some consession or other and before long noone will even remember what the problem was again. I also expect, based on the previous patches, 1.3 will come with some silly bugs that will get squashed in the daily updates following the release of 1.3. After that things will stabilise and we're left with a better ED and a thirst for info on 1.4. :D
