Powerplay 1.3, The new faster docking computer. (Video)

What with this and mining drones it getting all too easy.

Pilots should be made to dock, blindfolded with no thrusters and no yaw, just rotation and faster/slower controls.

Back in my way *waves cane*

Wait..what?
I'm suddenly confused about the whole landing an Anaconda at an outpost thing.

See, that's the problem - he was landing the Anconda on a medium had. Had to land nose down to fit!

Has anybody tested flying like a madman into somebodys path then quickly slapping the docks on? I'm just wondering if the docks could be used as a ramming tool to not get fined. Ive been meaning to test it but not had chance.

You need to throttle down for the DC to kick in.

Someone I know who grew up playing Elite on the BBC now works as a programmer in the industry and he's still impressed by the auto-dock in the original 84 game.

I enjoy the Blue Danube playing with the DC active, its one of the reasons I've bought one in the past. With the new impatient DC, I cannot hear it any more over all the boost noise.

Call me old fashioned if you want, but the Waltz playing, the ship doing its own deliberate dance towards the bay and the DC burbling away in the background is part of the essence of 'Elite'. Please do keep the new intelligent DC (it is impressive), but give me the option to be patient or impatient. Either let me disable boosting whilst the DC is on, or as an alternative I would suggest two types of DC: Basic and Advanced. Basic for patient pilots and Advanced for impatient pilots.

At an Outpost. (Diamondback)
This ones a bit scary the first time......

Woooaaaaaa........got to try that in a Python and the Oculus Rift. Might need a change of clothing afterwards........

Edit: What happens if you drop the landing gear before activating the DC? Would that not prevent the boosting?

Oh while were on DC something I noticed moving to type 7 from asp was that the type 7 still (currently) says "warning landing gear not deployed" when using the computer - I'm guessing its an oversight but just spotted it this week.

Those videos look great SJ

I hope it navigates properly when you come out of SC behind those stations that have the "Hulk smash" hammer-arms. Those mallets are much less forgiving than the video posted, in fact they are insta-death.

Looks really good, especially at that outpost. I wonder how it works for big ships, I can usually dock my anaconda in 40-50 seconds from 7km, this took about the same but in a ship that's a lot faster and more maneuverable. Still if it's around 60-90 seconds for Conda it might be worth it if you're lazy.
