OP has been updated with the following changes:
- Refined guideline #2 so members of the group CAN discuss political entities if the discussion is relevant to the group’s goals.
- Changed some of the wording in the first couple of paragraphs at the beginning of the OP.
- Mission G information updated. Federation President’s death likely not linked to alien intervention.
- Added proposed rules of first contact and engagement.
- Missions D & E updated.
- Proposed Mottos added for discussion (more Mottos may be offered by members and friends to our causes).
- Mission C details tweaked.
I'm hoping to get a group emblem and/or optional signature picture for members posted in the OP soon. Hard to decide what symbolism would be the best representation of the group. Suggestions are always welcome here, from members and non-members alike.

Sounds great. I always love when more groups are formed, especially unique and RPish types. I will not join because I am a Merc, but I think a formal alliance would be mutually beneficial. We are on the edge of civilized space and have many explorers in our ranks. If an attack comes, the groups on the edges are likely to feel their wrath first.
I want to be one of the first groups to welcome your group. Good luck and check us out if an alliance interests you.

Welcome to the group, CMDRs SirBlocksALot and Lythis! Glad you signed on. And, as always, feel free to discuss anything concerning the group. Never be worried about speaking up Criticisms, opinions, suggestions, comments, ideas; they're all welcome here.

In fact, the only way the Knights won't automatically and immediately provide help is if we're explicitly told not to help. So, I'd be happy to call the Mercs of Mikunn allies of Knights of the Black.
Just to be clear to the group, an alliance doesn't mean we support or endorse the beliefs, politics, or actions of allied groups. We exist to protect all Human systems against alien threats. Should an alien species attack, we'll likely all have to work together to survive and defeat that alien species. Of course, all opinions and comments on the issue are welcomed.

Thanks for the warm welcome! As an official member then, I would like to make a comment. Well, actually two. First of all, the name rocks, and I reeeally like the concept of knights in space (maybe it's because of my love for Star Wars lol). My second comment is to voice a need for communication. This forum thread could get a little bit lost after awhile. I don't know if you already have a website in the works or not, but if not, I think I can help you out with that. If interested, just let me know and we can discuss further. This would be great for members to be able to meet and talk, keep track of guild rosters and roles, calendars and events, official bulletins, etc. I would also like to recommend some kind of chat server. I don't know if you have ever heard of Raidcall, but it is basically a free version of Teamspeak. Just figured these tools would help to feel more cohesive since there really isn't anything in game to speak of to do this, other than maybe a guild group instance.
@ jkmills: I'm glad you like the group's name I'm just glad it wasn't already taken! But I'd be lying if I said the Night's Watch and Castle Black in Game of Thrones wasn't an inspiration (among many). I didn't want to just straight up swipe the name though (as cool as it is). Plus, I thought most folks would like the idea of being called knights
About communication and a website, you're right, we need a website and a voice chat. It's been several years since I set up a website so I don't even know what hosts are best anymore. So I'm really really glad you offered to help with that, mills. I probably won't be able to get started on that til next week (this weekend I got a boat load of family coming down that I haven't seen in 7 years) but we'll definitely get started on that soon. Feel free anytime to PM me (or talk about it here in this topic- whichever you prefer).

Also, we'll begin the process of getting a website and voice chat going for the group sometime next week. I didn't expect 1.3 to drop today, so I have to update my Buyer's and Beginner's Guide as soon as I can, too. With family coming down this weekend, I'm going to be busy guy for the next few days lol Which is all good. I'm having fun
CMDRs TintinWasAFraud and Lythis (forum name jkmills78) have offered to help me set up a good voice chat and website for the Knights. It's much appreciated, and I'll get more involved with setting up that stuff starting next week. Hopefully all that will be ready by or before the end of next week. I'll keep my fellow Knights updated in this forum topic as things progress.
Currently, we have 6 Knights total (counting myself). As always, a current list of the Knights is in the OP. I'll try to keep the Members List updated on a daily basis (every 2 or 3 days, at worst). Currently, there's no requirements for membership. So to prospective members, you can consider yourself a Knight when you submit your post stating interest in joining. All you got to do is say you want in, and providing your in-game name is still optional at this point. The conditions for membership may change in the future, but probably not anytime soon. As long as you're willing to defend Humanity against alien attacks and are interested in searching for alien civilizations, that'll be enough for the time being
And to reiterate what was said in the OP, just remember that you can be a member of other groups, if you wish. I wanted to allow potential members to have the freedom to switch between their preferred roles as they like. For instance, I do take this group and my commitment to it seriously, but I could end up participating in Powerplay, or at the very least I might participate in a war. But when I am acting as a Knight of the Black, I'll leave my in-game politics at the door. For those who do participate in Powerplay, I realize that sometimes commitments to a Power may limit your capacity to serve the Knights of the Black (for instance if you sign up with a Power, and an alien species attacks that Power's enemy, it may be hazardous to enter that enemy Power's territory). Believe me, I know extenuating circumstances can come into play, so don't feel bad if those circumstances keep you from participating in certain missions or goals. How much commitment you put toward the Knights of the Black's goals and missions is entirely up to each individual. I have no desire to, nor am I in a position to punish anyone as long as we're following Frontier's rules for the game itself or for these forums. Also, using info obtained from the Knights or about the Knights to harass others is the only other major rule I'm a stickler for. Other than that, follow what calls you and have fun
On one last note, 1.3 was released today as I'm sure many of you know. Keep an eye out for any and all items in the game that could be of an alien origin (like the Unknown Artifact, which is still a goal to find). You don't have to beat your head against the wall trying to find all the new objects in Elite- just keep an eye out for them, and post your findings here when you can. Also, if you can provide proof with screenshots and/or video footage that would be a huge help, too. And if you find any actual alien ships, same deal- post here and provide proof if possible. With 1.3, there's no telling what all we might find.

Welcome to the Knights of the Black, t_strike. My gameplay style also revolves around mostly combat and exploration, so I know what you mean.
To the group: I'm going to add some details I've learned about interesting new objects and missions in the OP soon. There seems to be missions out there that require a high exploration rating, and the text describing the details of the missions is pretty interesting and unique. More details in a bit (those details are also available in the Soontill Relics thread linked in the OP in bold red text- the OP there has a summary, and recent postings there is where I got my new information).
