Ship Builds & Load Outs Fixed beam lasers not converging/tracking?

Hello, I just bought 2 1E fixed small beam lasers for the underside of my Cobra. Now after encountering a pirate in an Eagle, I've noticed they didn't have the slight tracking that all fixed weapons have towards the target in your crosshairs. So this meant that I could only hit the pirate with 1 beam at a time, while the other one was firing into empty space. Is this normal or did the salesman at Ridley Scott screw me over? ;)

Not 100% sure but I think It's the hardpoint placement of the Cobra being more to the outsides of the ship. Get yourself some gimballed :)

Yea, those two small points are at the far ends of the wings. Poor placement for two fixed weapons. The two medium points on the cobra are better for fixed mounts (or get a viper). Just so you know, going up, many of the multi-role ships you buy will have this problem. Many clipper pilots complain about this. Bottom line: hard points that are far from each other are better suited for gimbals or turrets. I do wish it was easier to see weapon mount placement in the outfitting screen.

Its definitely the placement of the hardpoints. The Viper has the same issue. Even with Gimballed weapons your target has to be on the lower half of your visibility from your front window, otherwise they will not shoot.

If you are out for blood in Bounty Hunting, try the DS. I have a Vulture, but bought another ship, the DEx. It was powerful, but it flew like a brick, totally false advertising with that 5 manuervering. I traded it in for the DS, and when you equip it with A thrusters, shields, 2 A boosters, a B SCB, and A Distributor, that thing is devastatingly quick and deadly, especially to any ship smaller Dropship. Even takes out Pythons, depending upon your ability to fly, because you need to keep out of site from its gimbals by flying from its back top, bottom and back so it cannot target you. If you keep the ship light with the remaining modules, you can easily hit 415 on boost. It is incredibly nimble. Almost like a tiny Vulture. The Hardpoints on this ship are probably the best placed for anyship with more than 3 HP's. It will target and hit anything you can see in your front window at every angle.

If you are planning on trading though, the DS is not going to carry much, if nothing at all, and the Cobra may be the best way to go.

That's actually a different problem. What you're seeing here is that the lower weapons on the Viper can't swivel up through the hull of your ship thus they can only target things on the bottom of the screen. The good news is these weapons are close together, meaning you can get both of them on target at the same time but only for targets on the lower part of the screen. Still not a perfect solution.

The weapons on the bottom of the Cobra are very far apart. If you mount fixed weapons here, you will have a very hard time getting them both on target at the same time. This is a poor choice if you want them in the same fire group. For example, I ran a Cobra with two rails on the bottom mounts. I had to place each rail on its own trigger because I could seldom get both on target at the same time.

I agree that the Dropship packs a mean punch, much more so than the Vulture. The Vulture's no lightweight though. What the Vulture does have is much better shields, to the tune of 200-300MJ depending on your configuration. That's a lot of shield to give up in exchange for firepower. Truth is, you're probably a better pilot than me. I seem to hit every beam, bullet, and pulse that they throw at me so I really want a flying tank. Here's my Vulture build if you want to take a look: http://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/2...n4a5353662j.Iw1-ADCQ.IwBhrSs5iA==?bn=ToughGuy
