Wait...what??? The system I scanned looks like I didn't, 2 weeks later???!!!!

Having arrived to Sag A* after a long journey that took me several weeks, I have decided to take a break here while I make some maintenance and repairs to the EES Orinoco, review all the data gathered, share with on going projects here in the forum, work in an update of my Logbook and also plan my route moving forward and back to civilization.

Well, preliminary inventory on findings point out to a total of 10 Earth Like Planets "Wow! That's very nice!" The data of said planets and their parent stars is coincidentally needed for CMDR Jackie Silver Project on Planet's Atmospheres...I know I take the pic of the planet, but rarely I get the pic of the main star as well.

Track down the date and time I visited the system, correlate that with my pics file, and yup...confirmed..I have the pic of the planets surface and outside...but cant find the one with the stats of the planet and the main star.

Not a problem!..GalMap...Enter system name...open System Map...Only Main Star is showing...nothing else...no ELP...or the Terraformable Water World or the Terraformable Hi-Metal, or the other Water World that WERE ALL SCANNED as I made my notes in my Logbook, on 05/17 when I visited the system!!!!:eek::eek:

It is now 6,594 light years away...back to the same direction I am coming from!!:mad::mad:

Past the tantrum of this disturbing find...what should I do? Ticket it and hope for the best? Go back to the system and re-scan it?? Leave it because is only 1ELP, 1WW, 1WW-TC and 1TC! ??!!!

So aggravated right now...thanks for your replies...I'll read them when back from the bar where I am trying to calm down!

You are updating data for the most part. Unless you go out of known space you are not discovering something. There is a decay in the data. There may also be a bug here and there.

So if I understand you correctly, a system you visited & scanned earlier has reverted back to unexplored. Now the first things

1) You did triple-check you checked out the right system in galaxy map? System names are easily mistyped :)
2) Likewise, you did triple-check when making your manual notes, that you recorded the name of the system you scanned originally in your notes properly? :)

Anyway, if you're sure of these both, you can try ticketing. Actually, it is pretty much the only thing you can do apart from flying back and re-scanning the system. But considering that the game should retrieve system info from the server, I find it unlikely the devs can help you; in all likelihood the exploration server has not recorded you exploring the system at all. A bummer.

Whoa, that's frightening. I wonder if this is happening more frequently and you happened to finally catch it. It's quite hard to tell unless one keeps a meticulous log...

I have 9 ELWs so far this trip (4 weeks in). I use EDDiscovery to log everything and parse it in a spreadsheet, so I can quickly check on those systems and see if anything is missing after work. I shall also have a drink for you!

If you haven't gone back and sold the data yet, then the maps won't be updated permanently. You'll see what you've scanned while you're in the system, but the main map on the server won't update until you get back to base and cash in the data.

The system map should still be accessible and still be the same. I noticed a picture of my 'most terraformables in one system' record (only 5, so not a global record, just a personal one) that I was at several weeks ago. Looked it up in the gal map to add to my spreadsheet for contributing to Jackie's database and it was all as I left it.

Selling the data shouldn't matter for what I can personally see on the system map. Kancro is definitely the victim of either a bug or a typo.

huh?? This is a system 10,000 ly our from civilized space...nowhere near known space....decay in data? I'm lost.

I use EDDiscovery that takes the data from the Verbose logging from the game..that's how is recorded...automatically...I didn't even typed it...I copied and pasted into the GalMap so..yes...checked...

2) Likewise, you did triple-check when making your manual notes, that you recorded the name of the system you scanned originally in your notes properly? :)

Because I use EDDiscovery, when I find something of interest I normally write it down at the end of scanning the whole system and before jumping to the next. I am trying to save manual work as much as possible and typos. So, I jump into a system, scan interesting things and/or whole, then open system map, make inventory of findings, THEN write down in the notes in the EDD, THEN I jump out...I have to do it like this because I know I won't remember the system name -as I am not writing it down anywhere- if I leave it for later...

Not 100% safe as any system, but pretty hard to effit if you are methodical, and even then the margin of error would be to write it either on the system before or right after. Checked both, just in case...they are fine and completed but not with this data.

How do I know it must be there? Cause the main star shows up as scanned and nothing else...is like it didn't record anything beyond my ADS and subsequent DDS's to each body. If this was something else, I would be doubting myself much more, but as we all know, an ELP is quite a major EVENT AND HIGHLIGHT in every exploration! Everything else you can be lousy, but this fella, you almost write it in a piece of paper under triple verification by you, a public notary, a judge and sent to the safe of a bank...is not the type of registry you will type down carelessly....

Anyway, if you're sure of these both, you can try ticketing. Actually, it is pretty much the only thing you can do apart from flying back and re-scanning the system. sighs...thanks man!...will try that!

This is exactly how I do it too...

cheers!!

Just on the off chance, check that the galmap has actually taken you to the right system and the system map being pulled up matches your entry in EDDiscovery. I seem to recall once entering a system name and it taking me to a different one.

The thing is if it is 6,000ly away and you are looking at the system map, you must have scanned it otherwise you wouldnt be able to see the system.

True, but as Allitnil points out the map might have gone to the wrong system, but one in the same area that the OP had visited that had a name that was just slightly different with only a single star and no planets. A long shot for sure, but at least a possibility.

Ok...Thank you everyone for your inputs....finally got home and went thru all my records, and pictures!! As I always document ELP very thoroughly.

And, solved the mystery....

IT WAS MY FAULT!!!! Human Error on my part!!!

I misplaced the data...better said, I inadvertently duplicated the note of the finding onto another system..several registries later...

My apologies to every one!! Beers on me!!

PLEASE MODERATOR YOU CAN CLOSE THIS THREAD NOW, BEFORE THE DEPLOYMENT OF HARDPOINTS BEGIN!! THANKS!!

Glad you solved, I was trembling about my data. Also because I have several ship malfunctions and I am blocked in the middle of nowhere waiting the main frame to reinstall. (Basically I'm changing Internet provider and I don't have mobile cheap connection for a week, and BIG itch to play).

+1 Rep for having the Balls to admit to it. Many wouldn't :)

Glad you got it sorted :)

Thank you Allitnil and Akira!! I am glad I had it sorted too!!! I was terrified at the idea that you could lose work like that! And yes, requesting closing after this post!

You Muppet! ;)

Glad to hear you hadn't lost an entire planet though.

Well, sorta did at the end. See, I thought I had discovered 10...after this duplicated was detected...9! Oh well! LOL...

That's great news! I was just about to log in and check my data. I'll still have that drink though. Cheers!

Cheers! I think I had too many last night,,still hungover!

Those long nights in the black can sometimes mess with your head :D

Glad you sorted it.

Indeed!!! Thank you!!!

Thank you!!! But with all the grievance that the FDEV already have, I couldn't in good faith, add another one and have them -and the explorer's community- chasing ghosts...

Love the game, love the community, minimum I could do!

I just hope people would still take my next thread seriously!!! LOL....

I promise guys, I'll behave and quadri check!!
