KS the expansions?

As I read somewhere that EliteV will probably never happen as ED will be continually evolved, does this open the door to more crowd funded, KS style campaigns for ED?

Along with that, the usual teasing pledge tiers and custom rewards. If ED reviews well, sounds like easy money to me.

Not, really. The idea is to sell these expansions. Doing a KS shouldn't be necessary. :)

I like the idea of loads of dlc over the years but if that is really the case worry how 35quid from the season pass will cover that. I hope that does not limit the cash for the game

Good a small KS, but then only for fun and rediscover the sensations that we had at the time. Seriously, I do not think ED will need to make a new Kickstarter. But if there was someday need, the backers would be there, faithful. I think

Because a lot of people won't be smart enough to jump on that deal ;)

Besides, who knows, they might stop offering that deal when the game hits the official release.

Indeed, simply selling the expansion packs nets far more cash to FD than paying commission to Kickstarter. As only existing players would be interested in expansions FD would be better served selling either the pass they have, or a pre-release discount to existing owners to fund the development.

FD's only free expansion obligation is to KS backers and anyone who purchases the pass. If in 2 or 3 years (post planetary landing and walk-about expansion) they removed the Expansion Pass from the shop, they could charge for future expansions to anyone not already on the Expansion Pass.

They might even decide to only offer the Expansion Pass for sale until the game goes retail - it depends how the numbers stack up. Things like this is probably part of the reason for FD wanting an E-Commerce Manager.

I have strong guess that expansion pass is still meant for preorder. It will be *probably* removed when game hits retail. Also lot of people complained about price tag for expansions, so FD maybe reevaluated this case and decided to continue to offer it for cheap (35 is equal to 80 - 50 (second/normal beta) - 35 (game) - digital book/soundtrack/starting places (could be hefty) - as you see people with preorder still pay for it way more than backers). It could also continue until first expansion is launched. After there's no reason to undercut retail version.

Yes, +1. I think the expansion pack will no longer be available when the retail version will be released. Probably, expansion pack is only for backers and pre orders. Frontier also needs to maximize its profits

I'd be astonished if they didn't!

Only a minority of the player base will have access to free expansions IMO.

I think KS is out, but pre-order would be fine. I personally wouldn't put money down before seeing the end result because I'm not convinced it can be done well.

I doubt very much that those who backed enough to get free expansions will make even a tiny dent in overall sales, there were around 40,000 backers and not all of them will getting the freebie DLC.
