vulture: fixed or gimballed?

I only really do PVE. Started out with 2 Fixed Pulse, but I noticed that due to the wide spacing, one pulse would often miss. I switched to 2 Gimballed Pulse and saw a major increase in effective DPS, especially when targeting power plants.

I am tempted try Fixed weapons on an asymmetric loadout, like Beam & Plasma, Pulse & Cannon etc.

One fixed, one gimballed on mine. I prefer to use fixed on a fighter, and use the one gimbal to offset the vulture's blind spot.

same for me.
but my reason is that i'm still not doing well with fixed... and i need some training without being completely helpless ;)

I tried both and fixed are fine but not nearly as effective against npcs as gimble. I dislike gimble lasers but the efficiency gap is too big to pass up.

I l earned my lesson on hard way, definitely fixed, for me only fixed and never again gimbaled , lost battle against vulture only because I used gimbaled and vult used chaffs as soon as he start getting hits. even have video about that , was maneuvering better than vulture in my cliper, my turns to him was faster than his, I was turning and hitting him before he managed to face to me, but cuffs did the job and I lost , I escape away with 5 % of hull :) , so fixed and train on stupid npc's targeting. Tune up sensitivity and dead zones carefully , and after every tune test it well , it takes time but you going to find your best. And at the end it will reward you .

Gimballed pulse for me. I'm mostly farming in RES sites or occasionally doing hunter killer missions.

When I fly in a wing I use cannons. Let wing member strip shields with his lasers and then I swoop in to mop up

Against big targets (Asp or bigger) chaff is a non issue.. just get close enough, then the confused gimbals will hit anyway.

And against smaller targets.. well either unlock target, or simply put 4 pips to shields and wait a few seconds until chaff has worn off.. The Vulture has great shields and if power is managed right it can fit shield boosters and shield cells. It can tank a LOT of punishment from smaller targets.. you could probably just wait until the opponent has run out of Chaff ;)

I agree, fixed on Viper is very good. Not got to the FDL yet!

I know this is an old thread now, but I have been doing some experimenting on the FDL with all fixed weapons. I found that instead of worrying about getting into a turn battle and trying to keep your fixed weapons on your target this way, which gets harder the closer a target is to you, especially eagles and side-winders, I had more success by getting into long strafing/joust runs. The hardpoint placement on the fdl gives great accuracy when your target is several Km away. When I used the speed of the FDL with FA-off boost turns to keep a consistent high speed linear joust with my target, I found that fixed weapons on the fdl works great.

I'm close to getting a vulture and was looking at what people had for loadouts. With its high maneuverability I thought it was a no brainer to do two fixed guns, but it seems lots of people are going gimballed. I'm wondering why that is and what you would suggest for bounty hunting.

I use gimballed beams. Target the power plant and ka boom!!

+1 for gimballed weapons on the Vulture - note that fixed weapons are more powerful, but also have a slightly higher power draw compared to the equivalent gimballed version.

On a Vulture this could restrict you from adding other or higher rated modules due to the relatively small power plant.

2 gimballed C3 pulse for me, heat is a non issue I can pretty much fire non stop.
subsystems falls way faster than when I use fixed because I don't have the dead angle up close.
but man dem chaffs, for PVP fixed all the way.
Even for PvP Gimbals are better, IMO. When they hit the Chaff, just unlock 'em. Against better pilots you'll be able to spend at least an extra 20% of the time shooting at them - that's a pretty massive boost to DPS. If you're using Beams, then fixed might be worth it - you can't fire them non-stop anyway.

Gimbals for me - for 2 reasons

1 I'm not very good at precise flying - I blame my keyboard and mouse

2 the vulture is so agile you should never have a point with gimbals where you can't shoot them.

I don't know, it really depends on what ship to say that gimballed is superior to fixed in PvP when chaff is used. It is possible to have chaff deployed with no down time by using dual or even triple chaff as I have seen some pilots equip. The main issue when you de-select a target with gimballed weapons compared to fixed is that the fixed weapons do actually gimball, and when targetting someone/something that is 750 or more metres away, it is far enough for that slight gimballing effect to converge the weapons to a crisp point. This means that all your weapons will hit their mark with an additional 20% damage (as fixed weapons have about 20% more damage then gimballed). With gimballed weapons where you have de-selected your target, they are rigid and straight forward, and on some ships the spacing is larger then a cobra, you won't be able to get all weapons to hit your mark. If anyone has chaff deployed with no down time, there is no longer any advantage to gimballed at all, and you at a disadvantage to fixed weapons. The dual chaff set-up is quite ubiquitous amongst players that play to engage in PvP, and it has resulted in fixed weapons being just as ubiquitous by the same players. In general, it is basically mandatory to equip fixed weapons for PvP, even on slower moving ships, players with PvP in mind will equip some hardpoints with fixed weapons.

Fixed. The dead zone at close distance only really impacts a few ships (eagle is the most obvious) and those ships are the ones that are easiest to kill anyway. Fixed weapons keep my aiming skills up, and I find the drifting on gimbals annoying; particularly above 1km gimbals miss a lot of shots that I would easily hit.

The ship is the gimbal. However, you can get the best of both worlds by using gimballed weapons and then un targeting ships if they drop chaff.

Not anymore. They are changing it in PP so gimbal weaps wander with no target selected. Silly, but that's what they're doing.

Personally, I don't feel that the hardpoint placement is 100% conducive to fixed weapons, they're a touch too far apart. Due to that there's a "blindspot" from about 1km to around 200m where you struggle to get both weapons to bear at the same time, so it can really affect your DPS.

Gimbal laser only for this reason.

Why is it that so few know that when chaff is deployed, you de-target and your gimballed weapons behave as fixed?

The only difference is dps. fixed do more, but gimballed guns help you miss less.
