Standard protection setup for Anaconda in Open Play? -Asking for open play Anaconda owners input.

I have to admit I have not taken my Anaconda into open play much yet, but reserved that for my smaller ships with way more affordable rebuy cost.
But I am considering using Hermione for open play cg's and such from now on, since I finally am at a level where I can afford a couple of destructions without getting a heart attack.

My question is:

What quality shields are the rest of you Anaconda commanders in Open equipping?
That is: what quality shields do you consider adequate to be able to flee pirates set on destroying you instead of just demanding some of your cargo?
And given the upcoming 10% and the cost of the higher level shields; what do you consider the best compromise so you don't have to swap shields when you want to go gung-ho with a battlewagon configuration? I am perfectly fine with swapping weapons and cheaper modules off and on for the 10% salesman cut, but the 10% of 7A shields is substantial; at least for me. yet.

Any thoughts welcome!

I have never been interdicted or attacked when flying my Conda in Open, it's just not worth anyones time. Even during community goals, nobody touches you. You only get engaged in high/low intensity conflicts.

Heaviest fight I got into was with two cmdrs flying clippers, in the end they gave up, one of them said 'Your shields are too strong, good fight' I never even used shield cells.

I love the ship, but for the reasons above, I find it quite boring using the conda in open. Would rather use the Python or something smaller for combat

CG loadout - Weapons would change quite a bit http://edshipyard.com/#/L=706,7RK5T...a9Y8SCgD88I,7Vs7jw7jw0AA08c08c08c07207205U03w

A7 in general, A4 if I want to grind an advantage out in a CG and pirate activity is low. I'mma go with the A7 exclusively in 1.3.

I run two different versions of the Conda, both trade equpped. 1 for trading in safe (relatively) trade routes the other for trade CG's. If 10% is implemented it will cost you about 9 million credits to convert one to the other and back, which sucks.

Glad to see the OP back in a Conda, not sure if anyone remembers but I do. Congrats.

I'm very slowly aiming for the following loadout for my Annie as a compromise between trader and tank. It will still haul 400t cargo, which makes a decent cr/hr but without refitting (especially now with the cost impact of that) it can also serve as a pretty handy battle tank:

Compromises apart from the haulage capacity are a 6A shield (although that's only about 100MJ or so less than the 7A) and the effect of heavy PP, PD, weapons and Thrusters on FSD range, which is down to 15LY fully loaded. I'm not a massive fan of kinetics, hence the use of pulse lasers everywhere except the Huge HP.

I only recently upgraded to A6 shields - can't remember what I was using before but I had 6 boosters.

That was easily tanking damage long enough to withstand a 4 player assault whilst I charged up.

Last night I put an extra booster and an A3 SCB to see how she would stand up against the rammers at Leesti.

They were in a Clipper, Vulture and Cobra all bouncing off - needed the booster but managed okay.

Ordinarily though I don't have a booster and run with 400 tons.

Might need to re-think something with the upcoming shield re-charge changes in 1.3 as it will no longer insta referesh going into SC.

ETA - just checked - it was a B6 before the A6 and 5 shield boosters not 6.

So I see the choice is between 7A or 6A. Cargo load difference isn't that much. I will probably go for the top of the line.

That is rather sad. So I would probably expect much more interaction in my tradefitted Clipper. And that rebuy cost really does not scare me enough to compromise cargo space for bigger shields.

Duly noted!

Thank you :)
Yes, I got back, knowing better this time..

Yes, I have a similar preference. Not sure everybody agrees, but bang for your buck I can't find any better alternative than the pulses.

4A plus a ton of boosters is not enough to get away from player wings.

Source = rebuy screen.
Yea.. I wouldn't try my luck on that setup in open; I barely survived a CZ with A4 shields.

...what quality shields do you consider adequate to be able to flee pirates set on destroying you...

Based on that part of your question, i.e. running not fighting, I would vote for Deathmagnet's Trade Conda. You still have almost 1GJ of shields and 452t cargo.

You get interdicted, you submit, cooldown, SC out.

The only trouble you might run into is if another Conda mass locks you. Which is not a problem if I understand the current mechanics. Just do the above and warp to another system.

Yes, this worries me a little with regards to long lasting battles. Wonder if the shield cell banks will be reworked to compensate.

This is the thing I imagine attackers will persist and follow in/out of SC with this shield change.

Though I think if you SC, throttle back then drop immediately and SC again they will lose the trail - not sure?

I assume that the 15% discount on shields and the like at Townsend Hub is part of the reason for this post? If not, just putting it out there that a nice discount is available.

Yes, you are absolutely correct.

I am refitting shields on my bigger ships now with this great discount, and was wondering how high I should go on the Anaconda.
Conclusion is leaning towards going for the top A7 and accept the compromising 340t of cargo space in a trade outfit.

Yea.
The days of refitting the Anaconda for shuttle traffic will definitely be over in 1.3. We sacrifice a lot of potential jumprange when we have to keep the top shelf components in the ship. Buying a hauler for the 150+LY trip is quicker and way cheaper.
Oh well..
