Hangar module for Elite

While I can appreciate the OP's request, I also appreciate ED's design and direction. So I emphatically assert a big fat NO...

Someone said it previously in this thread. The SC hangar module was built purely toward pacification of the mob.

You will be able to get out of your ship and "look at it" at some point.

Are all space sims to now include "hangar modules" and "dog fighting modules" as standard fare? I sure hope our community is able to maintain a perspective that transcends merely gratifying the hordes.

I wouldn't mind a simple ship-viewer, and it's probably a good idea to have something of the sort for looking at vanity purchases. It doesn't need the full gubbins of a hangar module though, as the ships aren't ready for boarding yet.

In game, the shipyards should provide a good look at the all the ships you can buy. Not all available at every shipyard of course and not all in the same condition. This might end up being the best way to see the procedural wear and tear on ships. If you're on Mars you can see them gleaming fresh out of space dock. Out on the frontier, you'll find some crustier examples.

As for a hanger to see your own ships, that doesn't really fit with the ED plan for multiple ship ownership but you could have a Checkmyships app on your space ipad. A "page" in the game interface, however it works, like your cargo page, map page, etc. Moving along, the EVA expansion should provide lots to see in the docking bays and landing pads, including your own ships, if they are in the same place.

I think it would be great if also Frontier built an Hangar module, apart from the game itself, so we can se hour ships. It would not take much time and it would be a nice addon to the game.

Why?...okay, it would be great but what purpose does it fulfill? - maybe pleasing for a while and then you'll never bother again. For me the bottom line would be if there is an option which takes longer (but looks lovely) I'll skip it for the quick route after I've seen it.

I'm assuming the gameplay here wil be great and so that's what I'll want to be doing all the time.

Lets not. The problem with SC is they are bowing to every backer request and losing track of the core gameplay (dogfighting) as proven by the lack of any progress on that front. If you want a nice fishtank in your hanger this isn't the game..

WOW! NEoRacer, You just couldn't be more wrong you know!?
IF you had been keeping track of the recent messages of Chris Roberts you would know:
- Most stretch goals are already planned. It's just that they are met very quickly in succession. Only recently some of these goals are defined by polls jsut to give the public some idea of what is coming and where the money is going to.
- Chris Roberts knows very well what he wants to make and only let's the fans give iput to that where it can be usefull. He's very clear about that if you woud pay attention to how he words his mesages.
- The dogfighting module was delayed by very sound reasoning. Most certainly they are not lacking in progress. Actually: they are progressing faster as they planned, THAT is why they want to get the best possible DogFightModule to the Citizens. Otherwise a mashed up DFM would have been created that would not have been representative for the end result. Have you seen the footage of last friday of the REAL DFM? If you can look through some of the issues it obviously has, it looks VERY promising.

Still... I don't think a seperate Hangarmodule for E: D would be of much use. FD have their own vision on how they want to deliver the game and I am very pleased with the result thus far. I can only hope they stay on this course and that SC takes its own course. The worst thing that could happen is two games that are generally the same. I want to play both and have different kinds of fun in both so please let them be different!

So do you find the hangar module worthwhile? I have seen a lot of videos on YouTube showing theirs off, at various levels, but once you have seen it once I guess its back to the SC forum and hassling the devs. for DFM?

Hanger module um i have bean running round my hanger in Star Citizen and to be honest it is a waist of time , OK so it looks cool to be able to see the ships i bought but it has wasted so much time to get it to work . They have had to put their ALFA tests back at least 2 months and are still messing with the hanger as well and who needs a fish in a tank will it guard the hanger for me ??

It does look pretty cool though. I did have a giggle looking over the SC forums when someone was comparing the two games and someone was complaining about the size of the ships and there wouldn't even be enough room for a shower! :)

I'm amazed that these ships have this much detail and that so much time was spent modelling the ships to include this stuff. I'm pretty sure there was a toilet too!

Looking at Newsletter #15 with the image of the Anaconda, Cobra, Sidewinder & Federation Fighter plus a human to scale it would seem that even the Federation Fighter would be able to accommodate a sanitary unit.

Looking at that also shows just how big the ships are compared with star citizen, imagine running round a hangar with an anaconda and a panther in it, you'd be knackered....

I'm sold on the idea and I want it now! FD, stop all development of the Alpha and get us that hangar mod STAT! <dons flame retardant clothing> ;)

There's valid question actually - do Anaconda ever visit any hangar again after launch? Maybe in case of heavy repairs, but still...

You mean, are they too big to land and have to berth in zero-G. That's an idea. Or even if it was possible, they could be so big that it would be decided that the carnage they could cause inside a station would be too great so they would dock along some stalk or other along the axis of rotation. This wouldn't have to travel the full length of the station, front to back, but could extend up from the floor/walls towards the axis, creating a ring like structure with struts extending out from it in either direction. Once docked I guess they would be rotating slow enough not to cause damage to either the ship or the struts.

Some of the spacecraft in Frontier could not be docked with a space station because they were too big (specific example I recall is the Panther, which took tons of damage when trying to dock, even on autopilot). I suspect this will be carried over, although probably not until the planetary landing expansion comes out.

No, for me, this just doesn't feel right for Elite and the last thing we need to be doing is taking Braben away from his true vision by calling for some rather gimmicky feature from SC. There is a real sense of momentum and confidence about ED now which should be allowed to build.

I don't think it's a bad idea per se, but the type of home hanger that SC is using is probably not appropriate to ED. From what I remember of the ED concept art the hangers are akin to the sort of large rack storage some marinas use for boat storage. The ship lands and is then stored in a small pen or cell. I'd imagined that this would be rented storage space and not a personal hanger. Besides, I already have a fishtank :).

Maybe when FPS is introduced later on and we can leave the confines of our ships we'll be able to see them in externally on landing pads or in hangers. I don't think much more than that is necessary. In the meantime they might use cutscenes of our ships docking etc that would provide an external view.

Elite Dangerous is already in alpha and will have the full world available in Beta in only a few months.

Star Citizen developers know perfectly well they don't have a chance in hell of hitting any of their deadlines so things like the 'hanger module' exist to give people something to talk about. And even that was released in a very buggy 'pre release' version.

I think I'd like the Elite developers to just keep concentrating on getting the full game ready.

Soon I'll be flying the Cobra rather than looking it in the hanger.

Those Last Three Images.....

The landing pads in Elite isn't quite the same thing as the hangars in SC. ;)

Indicate that the orbital station are cylindrical and not cubular. Not really how I pictured the interiors to be like.
