What's your metagame?

PowerPlay may be the incoming metagame, but what's yours?

I've tried a bit of everything, and despite playing for a while now, don't think I've found my niche in ED. I'd worked up to a full spec Cobra at a fairly leisurely pace...I'm in no hurry for FDL's, Pythons and Anacondas.

So much so that my metagame is ship collecting. I've always sold my ships to help pay for the next one, and have started regretting that, so off I go to Arexe.

I sell my Cobra for a Sidey. Yup, that's right.

I kit out the Sidey, do a little mission. Lovely little ship. I still have bags of cash left, so I buy an Eagle and kit that out and do some bounty hunting at a RES for half an hour. I'd forgotten how much fun those things are. Still plenty of money...what's next. Hauler. I kit it our for trade runs and do a couple of missions, I get interdicted by a CODE CMDR who lets me off as I'm empty at that point. Good RP fun. Still, lots of money. Adder! I kit that out as an explorer. Still plenty, VIPER! Fully kit that out and am planning on flying that at RES for a while.

I love playing like this...as some sort of 'car' collector. I've always got a kitted (if fairly low level) ship that I can immediately make some money in if something crappy happens. Next on the list is to get the fully kitted Cobra back (unless the Diamondback Scout comes in cheaper)...I have about 4 million...couple of community goals in the the Viper should do it.

I daresay plenty of people have collected the set, but hey...anything that keeps things fresh.

Yeah, I collect ships and experiment with different loadouts. Currently have about 540 million CR in the bank, and aim to get a bit more in order to have a healthy safety cushion. ;-)

I fancy to imagine myself as the Bean Bandit guy.
A garage full of cars he loves, doing whatever he wants and a strong moral code.

I'm in no rush to ELITE-out the three ranks, and I see no reason to rush it.
one of the great things of this game is having an entire ' Galaxy at your disposal.

Sometimes I simply stop and stare the view. I have nearly 17 GB worth of images. And counting.
They are worthless to anyone but me- but that's my real treasure. Everything I do is absolutely meaningful- to me.

Oh and I never died. (or combat logged -you who thought about that).
If you play smart there's very little you can't be prepared to face...

Initially I planned to try every ship once fully upgraded as I want (ASP for both combat & exploration etc)
Pretty much test everything and experience all the game has to offer.

Having seen the cost of a combat upgraded Anaconda I moved to I want to own every ship in the game fully upgraded.
Now the 10% module sell penalty is coming in I've added 2 more Anacondas to the mix so I hope to eventually own a Combat & Exploration & Trading Conda as well as every other ship in the game upgraded. (Current Assets 430mil, required assets for that would be 2,500mil so its going ok so far) Obviously there is no time limit on when to achieve this by but I hope to have it before the end of development in 8-9 years time :)

Sort of on the side Im being as optimum as possible within reason. So I bought all Falcon De Lacy ships during Zaonce Discount, ASP and Orca at Alioth Discount, all class 5 and above shields at 78 Ursuae Majoris discount etc
All my ships bar my active one are parked and gutted next to the Founders world waiting for my to get access :D

I don't know if it counts as a metagame, but I'm currently flying around the Wolf 359 system in a Hauler doing odd jobs for the Wolf 359 Labour Party.

I used to just wander from system to system like some intergalactic nomad, but I'm finding getting to know the locals is a bit more interesting...

AFAIK the meta-game is the reason behind why you are doing what you are doing. The end goal.

For some the end goal is to roleplay as a space-pirate or whatever. Some want to explore the universe and for some it is to "finish" the game by getting the most expensive ship. Since there is no official story or finish point the meta-game is your interpretation and aims.

That's kind of what I'm doing. I'm roleplaying a sort of Justin Calvert type character.

He's from the Night's Dawn Trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton, and he started off as a scavenger but his goal was to make enough money to refit his fathers old ship, The Lady MacBeth, and become a trader. I'm trading around the Wolf 359 system in a Hauler, and neighbouring systems, picking up BB missions and building rep for the faction I mentioned above, with the goal being to get enough money for a bigger ship to do more lucrative trading runs.

My meta-game is as a surveying explorer for Universal Cartographics.

I'm working my way through a list of x-ray sources and eclipsing binary systems to fully scan every celestial body in them.
Then I'm trilaterating each system against multiple distances to derive their exact location in the galaxy for TGC/TOR.

I'm a Champion of Democracy.

I find a system that has a Democracy-based party/org, and I start doing BB missions for them. If there are RES's in said system I make sure that I *don't* target anyone from that party - even if they're wanted. If there is a station/outpost controlled by that party, that's where my trade route starts and ends, and once I get the bug to go exploring again, I make sure my port of entry is that station, where I sell off all my exploration data. After the cartographics dump (which is usually to the tune of several million credits), I move on to another system with a Democracy-based party and repeat.
