Annnnnnndddddd this is WHY I play open...

I just made enough to upgrade from a Clipper to a Python.

I put all my money into a class A FSD and decent thrusters.

I got a bunch of cargo slots and loaded up with paladium so I could buy some weapons and then.....

I realized I didn't have enough cash for insurance!

My trip to get some Imp slaves was fraught with paranoia. I got interdicted twice by NPCs and
was terribly afraid of the three Commanders I saw on my way to sell my cargo.

FUN!!!!!!!!!!!

This is EXACTLY why you play in open. I am just bummed I wasn't around in my Pirate ship to find you ;)

So trying to keep up with the Joneses, will be the next; why I didn't have insurance threads.

Fair play to you, you took the risks, you won: This time

Arry.

Been around since PB. I've done this exact scenario 5-6 times. Haven't lost yet.

I certainly wouldn't whine if I got caught... but it makes the whole thing a real blast.

Putting 70-80 million creds on the line is fun!

LOL, tick tock, keep going, it is going to hurt.

I play HC D3. The difference? There aren't a bunch of jerks running around in D3 killing players for the fun of it.

True. That makes a big difference. Even if the actual number of murderous jerks is low, they are still out there. As for OP - running without insurance in solos crazy. Doing in open - yeah no thanks. You must have a lot of time on your hand to be willing to throw away all progress in the game on the whim of a jerky player.

And if he'd of lost his ship? Probably wouldn't be so glowing about it.

I only play in open.

i have a 14.5million rebuy cost conda (no backer discount) that i've been feverishly upgrading this past week due to 1.3 coming up. I've been routinely running without insurance as I upgrade ...trade to build up funds and repeat.

Just about the only way to make trading interesting/exciting.

Even so, with a handful of other cmdr's on that same route. The only real threat to my safety was myself as I turbo out of and into docking bays.

I agree with HairballHacker on this - when you (people running without insurance, not anyone specific) lose that Anaconda/Python due to a mistake or PvP, you probably would instead write a whine post and/or rage quit the game. Seems like a majority reaction to failing to take proper safeguards.

I could see that being true for players who play against mostly npcs and haven't been killed by anything other than accidents or negligence. Basically taking the easy way up to their ships.

I think most players who lose their ships either through violence or stupidity dont rage quit or complain but you dont hear about it on the forum because why would you? I know full well that if i lose my ship without insurance i lose 6 months of work most likely and that's a risk i'm taking and partly why i'm taking it. This isn't the first twitch based mmo space combat game i've played so losing isn't a new concept i dont expect to ever happen. You play the game with a "when will a die" not a "if i die" mentality and you'll have a much better experience.

I think this can all be attributed to personality. Some people like to take risks (sky diving, motorcycles and lots of other crazy stuff). Many would not take such risks unless there was a greater risk if you didn't (for example jump out of the plane with a parachute or go down in a crash). Some might not even jump then.

I'm personally in the borderline - I find the idea of skydiving enticing but I'm not enough of a risk taker to actually do it. Sometimes I want to do it, but I likely never will.

You (Darth Ender) is clearly more of a risk taker personality (note - I'm not saying that you jump out of airplanes and drive motorcycles, but perhaps you do :)
