Bit dissapointing

Us new alpha's can't get in there, before the accessrights are handled manually by Frontier staff/moderators. I suppose this won't happen until some time next year :)
*cough* Until beta.

Try this
1 - make sure that you have removed any old mouse drivers
2- make sure that Enhance Pointer Precision is turned off. To do this, go to Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options and uncheck the box.

Just registered for the Alpha, downloaded and launched.
Can't get the graphics to play ball. The pointer doesn't line up with the selection, tried my monitors native res but it's miles off, tried all the res's I can but all miles off, makes menu selection all but impossible.
Once I launch the game I can't even click the "next" button to start the Waste Disposal scenario because the mouse pointer is too far off beam to find it.

Is this a known issue? Drivers are up to date, no problems with other games.

One can sympathise with your frustration but the whole purpose of Alpha is to find problems when tested on different set-ups. For a tester finding a problem should not be viewed as 'bit disappointing' but something positive which helps provide valuable information to the project.

There is a Technical Support link on the launcher, I would submit a report through that.

Is the mouse connected directly to the computer? Or via a USB hub?

Michael said that although FD are now on holidays until January, someone will be available to handle alpha problems. I presume you've tried wiping the install and reinstalling? If no luck still then submit a ticket.

Also, does the mouse have a config app? Maybe it needs to be disabled if it is conflicting with the game's own mouse config?

Thread title "Bit Dissapointing" is a little misleading considering you are having problems with an alpha build....:S

Only other controller is a cyborg x5, this is recognised by windows but ignored by the Alpha, game behaves the same if I unplug it anyway. This machine has 2 GTX 580 cards in SLI and Fraps is telling me I've got 4 fps! Something seriously wrong here.

Not to worry, getting too tired to bother now. This is my second rig anyway, my serious gamer one is in for repair because the power supply borked, I'll wait till I get that back and try again.

Total confidence in Frontier, I'm one of the old gits who played this game for a thousand hours below deck on the HMS Victory on a wind up Acorn Electron back in the 17th century. I know it'll be fine.
I'm assuming that you haven't done anything to enable SLI specifically for this game (i.e. created an SLI profile for it). If not, then it shouldn't be a problem with SLI but it'd be interesting to see what happens if you disable it. If you *have* created a profile for the game, then try forcing AFR2 rather than AFR. I found that with the AFR forced on, it killed performance (down to a few FPS) but with AFR2 on I get almost double the performance of a single card.

How about mouse drivers?

Also, a quad core cpu is recommended; I can confirm that the cpu is put to good use, with some people finding themselves with the GPU doing next to nothing because the CPU can't cope.

running alpha with high settings on a good old Core 2 Extreme X6800 with a passive g9800 gt and 8 gig ram. fraps calls 60fps in the first 5 scenarios

just sayin' :D

Try this
Find the Elite exe (don't have Alpha so can't tell you what it's called or where it's stored)
Right clicking on it and left clicking on properties.
Click the compatibility tab
Place a tick next to Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
Click Apply
Click OK
Try Elite again

I would remove all mouse drivers, download a new one and reinstall (if you haven't already).

This is not a known issue so I suspect a personal problem.

Thanks for all the tips, I have uninstalled. This isn't the machine I intend to play the game on anyway so I don't want to get too involved, I will just install it on my main rig when it comes back from repair.

Thanks again.

Surely it would be a valuable exercise to diagnose the problem and inform Frontier so that the issue can be fixed? that is after all the primary purpose of the testing process that you've bought into.

+1

This is the main point of being in the alpha phase :). I would really recommend that you send a ticket to support with the details of your machine. Someone else might have the same set up down the line.

If you have no other way of getting the details, the alpha client can gice you them. Just right click your email address once you've logged in, and you can get it to display the hardware survey FD conducted on your machine. You can also copy it to clipboard so that you can send it to them.

Sounds very much like the issue is the DPI settings to me.
Have you made the windows icon's bigger so you can see them on a TV screen?

Where possible you should always try and fix issues with games yourself first. Do everything you can to narrow down what the issue is. Update your drivers, research the issue online and if all else fails then raise it as a bug.

I've bought around 250 games in the last 9 months on PC since returning from a console hiatus (gotta love humble bundles and Steam sales) and some haven't worked straight away but I've done my homework and found what was wrong and fixed it.
Sometimes the game is just broke of course but I find that's rarely the case.

What you shouldn't do is give up too quickly and expect a game developer to fix something that's wrong with your PC not the game (not that I'm saying you are doing)

To fix the DPI issue try this
Find the Elite exe (don't have Alpha so can't tell you what it's called or where it's stored)
Right clicking on it and left clicking on properties.
Click the compatibility tab
Place a tick next to Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
Click Apply
Click OK
Try Elite again
