4 Months

My condolences Cmdr!

I was lucky enough to press delete instead of insert to extract the gears, so i only lost my noobie sidewinder.

Silent running has been un-bound. Thank you for your sacrifice so others may learn, and my condolences, CMDR. A truly horrible way to lose it all, considering the time and effort spent.

My sympathies to the OP. My longest journey so far was only ~2 weeks, and I was nervous coming back into inhabited space with just that small amount.

For everyone, and for any future thread-readers, un-binding Silent Running isn't necessary to prevent this. You can switch it off in the cockpit - you don't have to remember the binding:

when faced with a high pressure situation, such as described int he OP, this may still take too long. Safer to just unbind it, and activate it that way if *really* needed for some reason - though, I can't really think of a reason as to why when you are exploring.

Thank you all for your sympathy. I'm going to go and play South Park: The Stick Of Truth since it's been sitting unplayed since I grabbed in a Steam sale on boxing day.

Already half planning my next trip though, so I'll be back in a couple of weeks :)

Rep for you. Enjoy your break, and best of luck on your return. Your attitude deserves success. :)

This is my greatest fear, having been out far away and exploring for 131 days now. The last mistake I made caused the canopy to crack a little. Still 5 weeks or so left till I come back.

I feel your pain, I'm so sorry,

As one who has melted my ship twice bringing in data i feel your pain. The last one was an epic rage quit on my part. Back now in the dark as you will be soon i have no doubt. Good travels commander.

You have my deepest sympathy. 4 months is a lot of effort. Take a break, enjoy South Park adn we will see you back in the void soon.

Your post made me cringe

Sorry to hear your story ..i removed all controls to silent running, i hit it a couple of times and quickly got hot ....i also nearly forgot the Key to turn it off.

Iain,

As a regular poster I've always enjoyed reading your contributions here on the forums. I can totally understand your need to step away for a time, but it would be really good to still see you taking part here if you feel that you can.

Have a break, enjoy something else, and we look forward to seeing you flying again soon. Perhaps winging up with a few commands in a couple of weeks and grabbing a drink might help.

Take care.

Ouch Iain, that is painful. Enjoy the stick of truth and look forward to seeing you back posting here and out in the void.

Everyone's worst nightmare...I am SO sorry. I would gladly donate 10% of my exploration for the next 6 months if it were somehow possible :(

Hope you come back soon

4 months of play gone.

I took a picture, I alt-tabbed to rename the file. I alt-tabbed back in. Somehow I turned on silent running. I died before I found the key to turn it off.

4 months I've been out.

I'm going to play something else for a while.

I'm sorry to hear this. Luckily I run more than one monitor so don't need to alt-tab in the traditional sense.

The Sea, Fate and Space are cruel Mistresses. and they are truly devastating when one breaks your heart. It sounds as if you will be making the amends with one of them soon.

This thread also clearly indicates why Exploration needed its own sub-group. I have had a few scares myself (Selfy while fuel scooping at 70% heat and then hearing the FSD disengaging...at least the pic was nice) Any of the other groups wouldn't have given a single reply of support, most of it would have been beyond harsh, but for us the pain of a 4 month loss is too real, thus the sympathies are real too.

Man that is so grim! I'm on day 3 of my first expedition (round trip to California Nebula) and already nearly gone completely 'nanas from scanning down every system. 4 months? How did you manage to not chew your own limbs off?
