who else is selling/downgrading all their components to avoid the 10% penalty?

finally got back from a (cut short) trip to the center of the galaxy.
Hate to do it, but I'm selling my $100 million fuel scoop, and $20/$30 million weapons before the component penalty kicks in.
If ED doesn't implement, the only thing I'm out is the time it takes to restock.. If they do, and I don't sell, I'm out well over 10 million.
Any one else?

I'm not selling the parts but I bought a Python and Asp to hold the larger modules I want to keep for later.

I was going to do this anyway since there's a -15% discount on humongus shields and cell banks going on. Get em at the sale price and stash them for future use.

I did, I refit the Asp to trader from explorer. I was not about to take a 10% hit on the expensive fuel scoop, detailed scanner, and 5A maintenance robot thingy.
At the same time, I purchased a cheap A6 shield, put it in the Asp, as the future shield for the python.

I do not understand the hysteria. The 10% is when you sell off equipment, not when you buy new. Thus if you upgrade any future ships, you will get the 10% salesman tax on the stock equipment no matter if you buy or sell anything now. But getting a large pricy shield at 78 Ursa now is sound advice indeed. I have a Clipper I can equip with a 7A shield while it is still discounted; I am going to do that.

Ya'll need to relax, the system before was highly dubious, being able to change around outfits for no cost in a supposedly unforgiving world like Elite was not fun.

10% is not going to break your neck unless you are in a big ship, at that point you should have figured out what you want and what you need to achieve it. In the long run it will be worth having multiple ships for different roles which is fine IMO.

It was fun, and useful. There is no way in game to know how your ship flys with different modules. Yes, we can use EDShipyard now, but you shouldn't have to. And even then that is just numbers, not experience. Wait until you start paying 50 million plus for a module. It still takes around an hour to make 5 million, no matter how long you have played, and to swap a module to cost 5 million is not fun, or useful.

Converting that Conda to trader will make it back quickly enough....

...... this panic is getting old and boring.... owners of bigger ships will just have to be a little more selective on purpose instead of re-commissioning the uber ship for each CG ... probably why everyone below Python ... just don't give a damn really

I'm still debating on whether or not I am going to sell off my expensive modules. Most notably my 6A fuel scoop. My fuel scoop is a must-have for me but every now and then I want the cargo space it takes up in my Python... and to be quite honest losing a total of 5.6m (the cost of the 10% loss on sale, and subsequent full price of repurchasing the module later) is an enormous loss as I only have, and only desire to have, the one ship.

So needless to say I'm perplexed and I really hope FD announces an official "We're going to keep it" or "we're going to remove it" before powerplay goes live so I, and players like me can make their decisions in advance as this is a pretty serious change.

This is most especially true with my two large beam turrets that rack in at 19m each... I have no way to testing if they will behave to my satisfaction until after 1.3 hits... Another HUGE worry... Because nomatter what I'm going to take a loss if I test them properly and decide I don't like them.

Im sorry, but what kinda surprise do you expect from Bx to Ax modules?(which is pretty much the only big jump in price for most parts)

Having moaned about the 10% on here a couple of times, I've since come round to the idea.

It's certainly more credible than being able to use parts to chug across the galaxy and then give them back for a 100% refund!

In financial terms it's not a game breaker.

It only really has a serious effect on high end items for high end ships. Having earned the ship to fit it to and the cash to buy it you should have a good idea of whether you need that A7 power plant or not!

I use different ships for different roles so it has limited issues for me personally, but I can see how it affects 'one man ship' devotees.

It will hit newer players as an additional 'tax' on earnings but not catastrophically so as the modules are cheaper.

Having read the change log it looks good (to me) so if the 10% parts depreciation is the worst thing about PP then the dev's will have done a good job.

All you people saying everyone should already know which modules are good and which aren't, please enlighten us on the pros and cons of the Imperial Hammer, Cytoscrambler, and Huge Advanced Plasma Accelerator.

Because you lose money after mounting one of those in your ship after 10+ minutes (absolutely not enough time to fly out and test one) I'd like to make an informed decision on whether they are worth buying or not. So know-it-alls, well I'm waiting...

90% resale value isn't good enough? It should be lower in my opinion. I believe Module Resale should be 85% and 75% for the ship, its like buying a new car and putting aftermarket parts in, you won't get full resale value for the stock parts, but they will still be worth a bit to the dealer.

The only way to properly solve the situation would be a warranty option, but even if you lose value once you open something and take it out of the box regardless.

Oh , I have to take a risk, better stick my head in the sand.

Two options: Either you take the risk of losing a few thousand credits (oh god, how am I going to get them back)
Or you play it safe, like a certain bear, and wait for others to test them.

A few million credits you mean. The vanilla huge plasma already costs 14 million credits. The special version will almost certainly cost more. Why don't you walk the walk and buy one to test and post all the details so everyone else can benefit then?

This is still really sad. That people are so short sighted that they think just because right now they don't have a python they never will. Or that this is bad because you want to replace the (superlative) power plant. (that's probably the only fing part you don't want to replace ever, just saying)

And that people have to start threads like this, that's sad as well.

Just do a 1% cumulative unrepairable damage and we're all <snip> equally. :)

Now that aside, to answer the original question I will sell off what I don't need just in case. And try to get some money to buy a storage ship, but I'm fairly new and short on cash so... not sure if I can do that in time. The fact that I'm forced to do this to avoid losing 10s of hours of gameplay is sad as well.
