Community Event / Creation A list of Beta Let's Plays; Streamers; and other in-game footage

anyone got any links to players posting vids with audio using the rift?

I dont just mean game vids, more with a running commentary of the rift experience.

I read the rockpapershotgun (i think it was) thoughts but anything else appreciated.

thanks.

That is Awesome!
Anyone else ever get into those "Magic Eye" stereogram pictures a few years ago?
Sort of cross your eye so that the 2 views merge, and it's in 3D!:D

Now, would a kind Alpha tester please answer a couple of questions from a poor Yet-To-Be Beta tester?

How do you know when/where from you're being shot? It seems the first clue is when your shields fail.

Would someone mind talking us through the dashboard instruments? e.g. What's that slider to the left of the radar screen? (I know the one on the right is thrust).

Thanks Eversomuch.

LOL.. yes, there is a sound effect and gfx but it is a bit too subtle as everyone is missing it at the moment and the first you know is when your shields fail. Frontier are aware of this and it is on the list of things to be looked at.

Not at home to boot into ED to get all the info, but:

- you know when you are being shot by the noises the game makes. The shield icon flickers, and in your scanner a flashing red icon means it's shooting you (solid red is hostile, yellow neutral, white for things like cargo and comms beacons)

- slider to the left of the scanner is the current heat your ship is holding onto. From 0% up to around 350-400% (I am told - only saw it myself to 150% ish). As you generate heat it goes up; once you reach about 150% you start taking damage until you either cool down or explode.

Ninja'd by Keevals rather excellent repost (Repped you for that too)

All my videos can be seen here:

A few 3D side-by-side ones (although quality not fab).
Also a lot of 2D ones
Plus a few early ones recorded by video cam rather than FRAPS
One showing cockpit
..and one very 'fun' one.

All have commentary!

[Edit] Scenario 7 in Anaglyph mode is uploading! Get those cyan/magenta glasses out. I'm pretty impressed, for an option that cost £2.99 in glasses. Thank you!

Kind regards

Cmdr Speedy

P.S. More to follow shortly, i.e Scenario's 7, 8 and 9.

I'm no Kerrash but will be streaming tonight. Trying to throw off decades of flight sim pre-conditioning to figure out unassisted flight mode...

edit - this is difficult! - end edit

Loved it! May I ask what you're using for flight and camera control? Thanks!

Kazz am glad to see people are watching them, I am currently using a Thrustmaster T Flight HOTAS joystick with a button bound to allow me to use head look on the main joystick.

I find so far from the Alpha, throttle control is SO important, so recommend everyone to look into a HOTAS set up.

However a button bound to allow the main joystick for head look limits me in that I can't manouver when looking around so hoping to soon be able to use FaceTrackNoir for my head look.

I know I've already asked this twice... but no one has answered, so I'll give it one more go.

When the latest Alpha was released some individuals mentioned an increase in frame rate. Can anyone confirm if for example the "final battle" seems to be running at a higher frame rate now?

Being an individual with an older machine, I'm particularly interested in frame rates obviously :)

Vimeo's no good for the average Commander.

Uploading:

Always try to upload in the best resolution you can possibly manage. People don't like watching crap quality (even if that's all their crummy ISP broadband will allow).

when you're done with a masterpeice, think on where to launch it. Youtube isn't the ONLY player in town. You have Vimeo too and again, there are likely others that people will recommend.

Vimeo said:
No screen-captures of video games or gameplay videos, even if edited. (Exception! Game developers can upload examples of their own work. Machinima videos with a story also are allowed, but must be labeled as such in the video description to avoid deletion.)

I was about to try Vimeo until I read the above. :(

Really? On my original config for the T Flight, L2 (10) was unbound (the lowest of the two that you can reach with your index finger on the throttle). I bound it to head look toggle, then set up joy povi(l/r/u/d) for head look.

Doing this your pitch/roll/yaw and thrusters are not affected - gives you fairly free reign. You can't then balance power via sys/eng/wep, but that's not a big deal if you're looking around. Just press L2 (10) to re-center.

It also means when you're racing around dealing out damage and are focussed straight on, your joy povi settings still work with sys/eng/wep balancing - the two key-press functions are mutually exclusive.

Sorry, joy povi is the mini stick with directional press on the main controller. If this makes a difference, be sure to mention it to the controller thread

In latest Aplha release we got planetary compass, or whatever it's called, which points to the planet.
In first Elite you fly to the planet and then it begin to point to the station. Anybody have checked this?

No way to travel to the planet in the alpha yet. It's a boxed environment at the moment.

Predator and Prey: Cobra mk III goes BOOM

Took the screenie from an already resized & compressed video, as I had already deleted the 'raw' FRAPS recording...
Windows Media Player eats parts of the screen at top & bottom :(.

Whole mission at YouTube:
