who else is selling/downgrading all their components to avoid the 10% penalty?

I agree with it too from a design perspective only if they allow the ability to store modules like you can with ships.

Pretty much everyone agrees the 10% thing is fine as it was always intended but the inability to store modules makes it punishing.

That's why it makes sense for multi-ship owners to strip them down now and use them as storage lockers...

I was pretty lazy about swapping modules on ships and this will actually motivate me to use modules a bit more efficiently.

Why have an A6 shield on 2 ships when you can just swap between them? Location is a factor which is why I moved everything to one station. It will slow things down a bit, but there are ways to minimize the impact.

For anyone who thinks this is trivial stuff, an 8A Power Plant for an Anaconda is 162,586,486 credits. If you want to downgrade to refit for trading you lose 16 Mil credits. Even a great route with a 452T cargo Conda means you need to trade 3-4 hours just to break even from the refit. You don't become wealthy in this game making moves like that.

I have sold all of mine, but only because I managed to get to Elite and wanted to make use of the Founder Discount. I have re-equiped the ships I am currently using.
If I didnt have Founders, I would just have re kitted everything to my normal configuration, if I need a new role, then I will evaluate if it is worth changing modules, or getting an extra ship.

I'm not, I'm happy with the way my Python, Anaconda, Clipper and FDL are equipped right now.

This doesn't hit me, I'm already rich. This only hits players not rich.

Bingo! The players still working their way up the food chain will be impacted the hardest.

Every time they try to upgrade to a new ship they will have to make up the -10% loss on their old ship PLUS the immediate -10% loss on the E rated modules of their new ship. Let's be honest now, how many ppl when they first buy a new ship tear out all the insides and replace them with D rated lightweight components? I know I do.

And to get back on topic. Yes savvy players should take precautions now. It's just like the overcharged/low heat/high impact weapons. Some of us stowed them away in storage-locker ships in case they became hard to find later. And they did, they're impossible to find now because FD removed them from outfitting. But everyone who cached a bunch are still able to rock the overcharged multicannons and lasers while everyone else can do nothing but QQ about it.

I'm selling all pricey nonessentials and stashing away some -15% shields, boosters and cells.

I was thinking about it, in fact I was already halfway stripping my 10% off modules drom my Python and Anaconda to move them to that 15% off modules area (one of the power's perks) and rebuy them there later... but then I realize I don't really care. I am rich enough to take the hit so I reequip those 2 ships and went on my merry way.

The only thing I did is strip off my 10% armor because they still do squat for subsystem. Keeping the 20% ones though because who knows when we get those discounts again.

Ummmm.... This will be the same storm-in-a-teacup as when my local shopping centre started to charge 20p for parking. For about a week people found parking places 1/4 of a mile away to park for free and walked, or went to out-of-town shopping places. After a week it was business as usual. For me, it's just logical that module sell/buy should be worked out the same way as ships, although I'd rather see something along the lines of "module with less than 5 hours flight time: 98%; module with less than 20 hours flight time: 95%; otherwise 90%" to give a feeling of wear and tear/age being relevant.

I'm kind of confused. Why would you sell or downgrade your components to avoid the 10% penalty?

If anything, I actually took all four of my ships over the the nearest High Tech and spent time (and credits) on maxing their loadouts to the best I could get, just so they'd be completely done, finished, perfect loadout, and I won't lose money from module testing in those ships in future.

Yeah - wonderful - now that I've wasted 2 days getting ready. Typical FD - don't believe anything they say. Still the moves were a good precaution. Just as you see here how quickly they reverse themselves, there's no way of predicting what will happen when 1.3 goes live, or how long it will be before they start changing things in the live update.

This just reinforces the fact that FD is totally unpredictable and you have to stay in a defensive posture that can accommodate changes quickly to protect your positions and strategies.

Well done FD - true to form. Keep em guessing all the time... and as soon as they figure it out - change it again.

You weren't happy when they announced the change, I presume. And now you're not happy that they reverted. There's just no pleasing some people!
