Cockpits look amazing but...Will there be a power up function?

In other words you enter the ship and the cockpits may look pretty dull...Then when you power up all the systems light up and come to life at a nice pace, checking systems.... powering functions etc ?

I think that would add to the atmosphere of the ship...

Any thoughts ?

From a cold start when docked for instance? Yeah, that could be a nice little touch. As long as the start-up sequence didn't take too long and get in the way I would be all for that.

I was thinking around five seconds with panels independently firing up...screens flashing, holographic images flickering to life.....And of course the whine or roar of the engines coming online ..

Something I would like to see I think :)

PS...A sexy voice saying " Systems online " or similar as an option wouldn't go a miss either :)

That would be awesome. In my Dreams there would be an option for an extended startup procedure ala the DCS Series of flight simulators or the Kickstarter failed "Rogue System"

Very good idea. Progressive and sequential lighting of systems. But I have a concern. I will be able to resist enlighten ... extinguish ... enlighten ... extinguish ... enlighten ... ?

So, not, "Hello, this is Eddie your ship board computer and I thought you'd like to know that I'm having a swell time. Golllly!" then? ;)

Some of the holo displays come from implants and can be with you all the time, not just when you sit in your cockpit, I saw a concept drawing of two guys standing talking and one had his displays up.

DB has said pilots will have implants that's one of the ways the ship communicates information to you including sound while out in space so it may be that rather than powering up some of your displays simply "jump" from your peripheral vision onto the ships display areas which i think is even cooler.

Perhaps when your ship is quite beaten up, things don't come on straight away & you need to thump them to make them power up correctly. :)

Why would you even turn the ship off? Depending on what's powering it, it may not be possible to switch it off. Plus continually turning electronics off/on shortens their life, especially in cold enviroments :p

When are you imagining that this start up sequence runs?
Everytime you launch from a space station, etc?
Only once per game session?
More often? Less often?

If it's every time you launch, there is a mandatory 5 second wait, to watch your ship 'power up' that's a long time. It might be longer than you spent docked.

If it's once a game session, fantastic idea.

There have been other suggestions like this, like 'waiting' for your ship cargo to arrive, and then waiting for it to be loaded. Yeah, in the real world it takes time to load a truck and if the company supplying the stock can't be bothered loading your truck you can wait hours, doing nothing. It might be realistic, but pauses for no real reason can get damn annoying. Especially if there are lots more of them in the game.

When you dock in a station.the ship could power down automatically....or a start up when you purchase a new ship...After all its unlikely your going to leave the space station right away ... But if you are then there could be an option to skip power down ?

When you leave I would think a 5 second start up sequence would feel quite realistic and I wouldn't think annoying...

However a "Startup Sequence On /Off " in the options could please everyone :)

In a realistic flight sim you would have these options so I just thought it would add to the game :)

I think such a "cockpit boot up" would get pretty boring after a few dozen undocking procedures.

There's a reason why your car or your PC doesn't do much brimborium when it starts up.

Maybe startup being automatic and fast unless you got trashed and didnt reapair so then is slower with warning signals and stuff.

Starting up is a great idea, at least when docked. When we get to gad about on foot, we'll probably have to power down first to stop some scallywag nicking our ship :p!
