Is there a reason i only encounter NPC's

Hey All

I almost never encounter other cmdr's I think I have seen maybe 5 in total, I have said giday to one other real person in my entore play time.

I seem to recall a setting on your router that can cause a lack of contact, port forwarding iirrc.

or maybe I am just in a lonely system.

how often do you see an other cmdr ?

Depends on where I am. Some places are crawling with live pilots. A lot of the classic systems from the original games are infested with pirates and such. And then there's my current area of operation, where the traffic reports for 50Ly around are all just me. It's a big big galaxy, and really easy to drift out of the populated areas even by happenstance, let alone intentionally.

Rarely, would be my typical experience. If I got to a CG, or now to a Powerplay event, I'll see a lot/some respectively, but typically just the occasional known friend here or there. The Beta I'll see more, as there's a tendency towards Dalton Gateway for all the new goodies. I did a 2000LY journey once (1000LY out and back), and saw 1 player the entire trip, who was in one system and "ran away" shortly after I entered.

Only players are included in the traffic report

Ok then I must be missing something as there were 50 ships in 24 hours last time I looked and I have not seen one hollow icon or name starting with cmdr.

Perhaps I just need to pay more attention.

I thought traffic report was all players. Yes it is easy to be in a system and not see a player. Goto lave diso and Leesti if you want to check if you think your router has some part. Just be prepared to run.

Might just have to take a trip...

50 other players in 24 hours. That's less than one every 30 minutes. How many players spend 30 minutes in a system they don't currently consider as "Home"?

If you're around the rares systems you'll see a fair few in trader vessels, and this week there were a few pirates as well. These are the systems I visit at both ends roughly, and I tend to see a few, especially around the stations:
Lave, Diso, Leesti, Uszaa
Witchhaul, Fujin, Zeessze, George Pantazis, 39 Tauri

Obviously be VERY careful at Leesti, but on Tuesday there were a couple of decent (as in "please drop some cargo" rather than "pew pew pew") pirates at Witchhaul. I didn't bump into them yesterday though!

...you're playing in solo?

sorry, couldn't resist.

To be frank:

Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindboggingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.

It really depends on where you are.

When I first started playing the game I just wandered from system to system buying and selling as I went. Eventually I wandered so far that I stopped seeing players altogether and I got a bit bored of interacting with NPC's. So I reset my save and set up base in Wolf 359 and the neighbouring systems. I see a nice amount of players, most are friendly, some are not.
