The most awesome ship idea of all!

Ladies and Gents...

I proudly present my new idea for a ship...

The Lakon Highway!

This is a four berth transport ship (using wings) that is capable of traveling vast distances. I'm talking a 150-200 Ly Jump range here. Ugly as hell, it is designed as pretty much a clothes-hanger for other ships. It's defense is the other ships! When fuel scooping, this baby will use the other ships scoops as well as its own! (which is quite slow on it's own)

But here's the nice thing. It will carry a data record module. All destroyed attached ships will have the opportunity to recover their exploration data IF the mother-ship makes it home. And also we can give this ship a 600 tonne cargo rack.

The proud owner of this ship will set his transport price to a destination that suits all four limpet ships. (Man's gotta make a profit after all) He will receive 50% of this on the outward journey. IF he makes it back he will receive the other 50% AS LONG AS THERE ARE TWO SHIPS STILL CONNECTED!

I think that's just quite a nice idea.

Input please! (-: Implementation should not be a problem for this.

Can it also send pew pew beams to destroy planets?

Your idea would be nice in a film, but maybe a little over-powered for the game I think :)

Ohhh my. That does look rather nice. I was considering something smaller until I saw that pic. Think of the interest it will generate??! So much juicy cargo.

In all fairness though, we could almost make a sub-game out of this. The further they go, the more the cargo or black box is worth...

The way the ships are set up currently, gimballed lasers wont be effective from all angles... And I didn't mention shields...

would like that. Something that is pure exploration. Something that has close to 100 ly jump range, and offers nothing else -- forces you to jump feet first into exploration. Can't be mass locked by anything, maybe a point defense and a turret to ward off people while you recharge FSD to jump away. ..
.
this game needs a dedicated explorer. Asp comes close, but it tops out at 35 LY, conda' is better, but holy crap it's expensive.. we need a high-end dedicated exploration ship. something as the type-9 is to trading ad the vulture (depending on who you ask) or FDL is to combat.

In general I do not consider being able to skip vast lumps of space in one jump useful for exploring at all. You would end up skipping more space than you would be exploring.

What I would like is if there were a few unique deep space scientific stations you could hand in your exploration data.

Cannot really tell if this is a sarcastic thread or not. Im going to assume its for reals and just explain why this will probably never happen. (my thoughts)

A ship with 600 cargo, space for 4 other ships and that jump range would probably have to cost 500mil credits before any upgrades and about 1.3billion to deck it out.

A ship that size with a 100LY+ jump range would have to have a class ~15 FSD (Bearing in mind the Anacondas 6A costs 16mil credits).

The T-9/Anaconda only just fits in mailslot/large pad and are supposed to only hold 1 fighter, how do you expect to get in/out of your ship and stop for supplies?

Finally just why would you ever want to fly such a ship, It strikes me as something that would be best being a moving station like Jaques but for exploration?

The idea on exploration data is interesting, a much more sensible idea (to my mind) would be to make wing data permanent. So if we are in a wing and I die but you get back home then I still get a percentage of my scan data.

Edit: Yeah, implementation and balance. :)

Well that's space for you, star systems are but remote oases in a vast black desert.

I would love something LIKE this... like a big hauler type ship that is shaped like a one-wing boomerang and can have it's own 2-4 docking ports on it that a player can request like a station and the player flying can approve/reject, so the ships would be landed like on a station... instead of a station menu, you get "launch" and "ship menu". In the ship menu, you can pick a turret to jump into/control, or head to the ship's cantina when FPS is added in.

It would be basically full of cargo bays, turrets and fuel scoops and with a jump range at like 50ly, but a shield generator is either not allowed or takes up multiple slots (or maybe all slots are class 3 or smaller, but there's tons) but it could only dock at SPECIFIC stations (let's say each "power" has a max of 3-5 places this can dock that are handpicked for trade good differences) via a specialty platform add-on... AND the safe drop-from-warp distance would be at 10km, so it would take like 10 minutes to dock the beast, vulnerable until the no-fire zone.

When sitting in normal space, it emits a strong signal source and is visible from everywhere in the system on SC radar when also in SC. This would be like a "mothership" for explorers to be able to go out together long distances, or mega-traders... but the visibility offsets would make them useless without a wing of fighters in known space.

It would cost one hundred billion dollars, have 5 power plants and make Types 9's look like Eagles, I say, EAGLES!

But then again, this will not likely happen.

I wonder if a bored mod can be a dear and change the CAPS title and correct the spelling mistake in it? Please ;)

In all seriousness this is a great idea. Such as a community goal to transport a deep space research outpost to Sagitarius A*? But might be bad for the Buckyball runners... not sure though.

All aside I would love to have a bigger trading ship with more speed and range a mix of the T9 and the Anaconda
as the T9 is the widest ship that can fit through the box but is not as long as the Anaconda so it should be possible
to get a longer/wider version of these ships or a new ship altogether, the cost of the ship should not be that much more
then Anaconda as it would not be that good in the battle front but as the OP ask this should be able to do the job.

Isn't this essentially what the upcoming panther clipper will be?

Why do all the "Perfect Explorer" wish ship include absurdly high jump ranges
When did exploring become get someone where anywhere as fast as you can skipping as many systems as possible.
