Racial diversity among the powerplay lead figures

Then, as someone said before, we need to look at alternative skin colours such as green or blue.
This is in the future.
We are putting today's racial stereotypes into something that happens 1300 years from now.
This is just pure political correctness.

Bet you Captain Kirk didn't, won't, has, had never gave, given colour a thought.

In a galaxy that is not racist, there are no races. All differences will merge into one phenotype.

I have no problem at all here.

If they were all black, I'd have no problem. If they were all women, I'd have no problem. I guess I just don't care about this kind of thing.

If all the spaceships were black? Yes, that would be a problem, because I'd get bored of just one color skin on the ships.

I'm not making a point, just stating my position. I just don't care.

As generations go by, it is expected that difference in skin tones will decrease as inter racial marriages etc occur. Do we really need to have an equal number of black, white, asian, hispanic, inuit, scandinavian, mediterranean, or whatever in games? If the majority of these pictures had been more 'ethnic' would people be raising this point? In the pic, I see a range of skin tones.

Also skin tones have no bearing on country of origin.

Everything does not have to be about race and if you are confused or uncomfortable discussing it, move along.

This thread address diversity, realism and an image of the future and what humanity will look like. It's our first real glimpse of the people of the Elite Dangerous Galaxy.

I observed that there are no clearly identifiable black people in the line up.

Here's an example of a contemporary science fiction character from another fantasy with a different vision of what the future could be like.

The Elite Dangerous setting is very different or atleast the subject matter in the game is unashamed of cover subjects like slaver, drug trafficking, piracy and so on. Discussing diversity and our first encounters with the people and powers of the galaxy is just part of the general dialogue.

My personal perspective would be that one of the fundamental parts of Elite is how little we've come socially despite the advanced tech. Hell, a lot of humanity lives under slave owning aristocrats. I don't think this is a post-racial galaxy.

A nice way round this would be the next faction being introduced being a radical Communist/Socialist power focused on equality abolition of slavery and so forth. A black character would make a fitting leader of a group advocating absolute equality

Why should they be expected to tick off some unspoken quota lest they incur the ire of whatever passes as the equality board in gaming these days? Unless it's five women, five men, every single one a different skin tone and nationality, they haven't met some obligation to be inclusive and "diverse"? Even though I'm as pasty white as the guy to his left, I fully intend to support Denton Patreus, and his skin color and gender doesn't mean a damn thing to me.

I don't know how diverse you need the pictures to be to not be considered racist by some people.

It seems improbable that humans will have evolved green and purple skin colouring by this time, no>? And since all teh characters at this point are human Kirk's kinks aren't strictly relevant. Body modification, on the other hand, could well be a major thing.

Ridiculous, political correctness taken too far.

No one bats an eye over the in game illegal arms trading, assassinations, drug running, piracy, slavery etc. The colour of some pixels, sigh...

Imagine if it was a picture of some Imperial Slaves.

The representations look pretty varied to me, so I don't agree with the assumption that the make up of these characters is in any way indicative of any specific racial intent. Trying to enforce an 'affirmative action politically correct representative diversity' would have been transparent as more agenda driven.

I feel that people are seeing what they want to see here, rather than what there really is. Please, can we just not enjoy the artwork and fantasy for what it is, rather than looking for hidden conspiracies?

I dunno, people can be pretty weird, I could definitely see some cult/fashion trend deciding to genetically modify everyone to have blue or green skin.
