Racial diversity among the powerplay lead figures

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character"
- Martin Luther King Jr.

There is more to a person than the color of their skin. We are all equal, and when some here find the racial make up a disappointment... well it's saddening.

With that said, cheers to Frontier. I think the characters look great. Some might know me for being unfairly critical of Frontier but I have to stand by them here. The characters look unique, interesting, and have a wide spectrum of political beliefs. Great work, thank you for the update!

No, this is about you, and others who won't let this die like it needs to. Bringing it up constantly to make you feel like some social equality crusader who likes to cry DISCRIMINATION! anywhere they can. This and the other threads already shut down are the stupidest, most confrontational, whinging high horse garbage I've ever seen on this forum.

Mods, why is still open? It's absolute poison.

HEAR! HEAR!

Mods, please shut this thread down, it is utterly toxic.

What they look like matters a lot

OMG! This is so much the point that you don't get. It doesn't matter and SHOULDN'T MATTER.

They are all human beings. I don't see race or colour. I see HUMAN BEINGS. Until the OP and people like you made an issue out of it I had no racially motivated response to those images whatsoever. It didn't pop into my mind until I came to these forums.

Instead of coming here and throwing an agenda over Frontier and their ethics maybe you should look at yourself.

A black person? Which one of them looks black to you, the vaguely hispanic or indian looking senator? I'm probably the palest dude you'd ever meet in your life, and none of these people look "black" in the least.
I think you're confused by the lighting and everybody is arguing about their interpretation of the lighting in the picture.

And if there really isn't a black person, so what? There's a bunch of other ethnicities in that picture. Not every game needs a token black.

There is at least one far East-Asian looking guy there, and Patreus looks sort of Middle-Eastern, but that isn't a very racially diverse line up.

I'm fairly certain this is just an oversight on their part, one I don't doubt will be corrected at some point in the near future, and if any of the FDev staff have noticed this thread there is probably already a post-it note on the art directors monitor about the next batch of portraits.

Remember this is just ten factions out of (what will be) 20. I suspect the future will see some more diversity - now that this has been pointed out.

The art is really good but they are very samey. I was hoping that there would be significant differences in the charaters appearances considering they are all light years apart in origin. Some signifanct difference in their styloe fo dress would have been great.

The differecne between romulands and vulcans comes to mind.

Ben, I normally (silently) agree with almost everything you say. I'm also very impressed with the manner in which you conduct yourself on the forum - you're such a friendly chap! But on the topic of character race/diversity I think you've lost sight of the bigger picture, and am really surprised you care so much!

"what you would expect from a bunch of British developers" Bravo to that?

Isn't it inherently racist and prejudiced itself?

The British are not a race, and speaking as a Brit no it's not prejudiced. The games industry here has historically been largely comprised of white men, that is changing as the country's demographic changes and opportunities for non white males increase.

If I could transfer all my rep.... Please close this..!

The only people "creating drama" here are the "lock thread!!!!!!!" crowd, come on

Genuine Q: Do the "racism is over" crowd really believe this or do you just not want to talk about it?

This is what I'm afraid of. Now there's a possibility they'll make the next 10 all transgendered black women just to be "politically correct" while it will only degrade the believability of the characters.

Maybe they should make their skin tone editable, like we can with the HUD.

I don't see anything wrong with raising this issue, however I personally thought the line up was diverse enough. Winters looks to me to be of African American descent, Patreus looks Mediterranean/ possibly Indian, Hudson looks like a true corn-fed American, and Li Yong-Rui is Chinese.

"Lack of racial types" was not the first thing I thought when I saw the picture.

Absolutely correct. +1

Is this dress blue or gold?
