Ship integrity in 1.3

The fact that this thread has grown quickly in a short time, yet has no comments from the devs, gives me a bad feeling. Could some one, ANYONE, from Fdev put our minds at ease about this? unless you're working on a fix, then carry on :)

Also, will repairs cost less depending on economy / population of a station now? Seems like a couple posts here mention inconsistent repair costs.

It's a Saturday and a lot of FD people have been up all night. I expect there to be a bug fix patch next week sometime, so I would enjoy the content and not worry about it :)

Sorry but that is absolute nonsense, we had this discussion on the Beta forum. Integrity loss does not cause your ship to malfunction or explode, the most that will happen is you lose 30% hull strength.

It sounds like the costs are bugged, however I can't see what this obsession is with integrity on this forum. My large freighters have been flying for months and I never repair it, same deal when I go exploring for weeks.

If my integrity was low enough that when I got rammed that the hull was low enough that I exploded then that may be why I exploded. Are you sure it's only 30 percent? I felt certain that the collision I was in would never have caused an explosion otherwise and I had full shields.

Yes I'm sure, I never repair integrity unless it is on my small combat ships (also Conda every now and again) rest of the fleet is all maxed out on integrity since gamma. Think about all of us explorers out there, some cmdr's have been in deep space since release.

Cheers

They do pay attention to what goes on here, but they rarely jump into conversations (with the exception of SJA who delights in telling us how we're all going to die at the hands of her Anaconda-driven artificial minions).

Fuel costs are also up I've noticed. It's time to Scoopy Scoopy Doo!!!!

I just noticed that the integrity costs are a lot more in solo mode then open mode. I switched to solo to avoid being ganked when returning with to yembava with 30K data reports and saw a 50 million integrity cost. I switched to open, and it was only 8 million.

Fuel Costs are fine. Maintenance costs are a bit high. Rate at which integrity degrades is a bit aggressive.

My FDL went from 100% to 97%:

9 Jumps
30 minutes of Bounty Hunting in a "High Intensity" RES...combat was light and i never got below 2 shields.
2 USS Scans...combat barely scratched shields
1 Perfect Soft Touch Landing

Restoration of the 3% Ship Integrity = 288k
Bounties handed in = 84K

Please add some passive income options in the game...like CD or Money Market accounts. As it is now, my ship requires that I am bonded for 3 million credits before it will unlock the cockpit hatch.

You want to talk about Ship Integrity....good I got some F bombs to drop:

Frail
Flimsy
Fragile

Well, when my fully shielded Python was in an Res and lost all of its shield by scraping an anaconda a bit (that would have lost maybe half to a full ring on my Vulture) and then just exploded I kind of wondered why. I'm also sure my integrity was low at the time.

I'm not sure about how I feel about the price increases. I think the fuel increase was needed and makes good sense to me, But the hull repair costs?

Maybe they are trying to balance out the filthy rich? Also though, I think those hull repair costs are comparable to modern Navy vessels. Just my opinion, but those increased hull costs might be a good way to balance out the progression of ship usage. Smaller ships will be more appreciated and the bigger vessels will be fewer and farer between as it should be. Eagles, Vipers, Sidewinders, and Haulers will become more viable craft to fly given the repair/maintenance costs.

With the concern of repair costs, all these folks with multiple ships will now have to likely cut down and focus on just a few or one in order to maintain them or it.

Has nobody else noticed that they stopped integrity damage? Someone must have read it and turned it off and went back to their weekend. I flew missions for Lavinginigyngitnt Duval (my pledge) probably 300ly in and out delivering over 128t of corruption data and my integrity didn't budge from 100%....

I was at 99% (798,000 credits) and fixed it before heading out.

Also for those who don't understand integrity it's pretty much how long something will last when put under scrutiny. That's why the double-mass class B modules will actually take a bigger beating sometimes. It also means, in terms of ship integrity, that once your shields drop you'll be subjected to a penalty for not keeping up integrity.

This is where the base armor rating (crap on eagle vulture viper etc) and how much "bulkheads" and "hull reinforcement packages" you have plus the base score of your hull. Think of NPC Anacondas at an RES. The "mostly harmless" ones that roll without shields will die so very fast even with two large pulse lasers. These guys are the ones that don't care about their ship integrity... The "master" ones that indeed can give you a brush with death are the ones that repair their everything at every stop.

Lastly, if it weren't obvious, each module has its own integrity too- so if you're rolling with A' s they're quite resilient. But how quick the damage starts to occur to THEIR integrity/health will partially rely upon ship integrity (and hull reinforcement package).

Maybe this is the incentive to play the smaller ships. ;)

Considering there is literally no point to the game other than to get money to buy bigger ships... That would make little sense.

Nothing smaller than a Type6 is going to let you progress towards the big boys at any reasonable speed.

Yeah... this repair is too expensive. I JUST got into a Python and I'm just breaking even every time I make an A-B trip... I'm hovering down by my re-buy cost too close for comfort!

I was really curious about modern Navy repair costs and found this.........

http://www.gao.gov/products/NSIAD-93-61

Given the numbers in the report, the Elite Dangerous repair costs are somewhat comparable depending on the size of the ship. I think, perhaps, that it should be half what it is now in cost per percentage point of damage.

The fuel price increase is very welcome, it makes me plan my route carfully and consider using a fuel scoop with bigger ships. More game elements are backk to life.

I also can see an idea behind the increased repair costs. Let's admit: getting into big ships since lauch was only a matter of time one was willing to spend sitting in front of the computer rather than skills. By now I assume a huge playerbase has at least a Python to fly around which is fine but there should be a way to make us feel the level of prestige when it comes to more expensive vessels.

It's ok to hang around in an Anaconda just to show off in open but now the maintenance costs are generating a risk factor needed to be considered.
The rates may be subjects to fine tune by FD but overall I see a favourable effect in the game world: commanders will bring out the big slips only when it's necessary rather than all the time by default and the ED universe will be repopulated with smaller and mid range ships in a higher number.
That adds to the level of reality for me.

Hello commanders,

I had the surprise late night too...734k cr / 1% for my Conda.

I imagine an explorer with this ship...how will he earn his bread ? not with selling data for sure.
Same thing with a bounty hunter and FDL : cost of ship integrity - bounties earned ----> bye bye FDL and hello Vulture.

I have a Lakon 9 with 500t loadout. On my 4 jump route from a to b and back I make up to 1.400.000 credits but have to pay for these 8 jumps roundabout 396.000 wear and tear. Plus the ridicoulus npc interdictions every minute now.

Are they back with that ridiculous amount of interdictions? They fixed that in the last patch.
Sounds like they actively want people to stop playing :-(

Wear&Tear costs are also way to high.
