Forum members divide - lighthearted

Does anyone else sense a divide amongst the forum members?

Type A - Original elite player from the 80s who loved the game, but does not consider themselves a gamer and has not played a video game since the 80s.
Characteristics: preference of keyboard controls, allergic to consoles
Likely to say: Steam? as in irons?

Type B - Grew up in the Sega/Nintendo era and have played frontier and possibly an elite port. Dedicated gamer with a current gen console and/or gaming PC.
Characteristics: blistered thumbs, big bags (late night gaming after family in bed).
Likely to say: BBC B? err.. do you mean BBC three?

Do you fit into the above? If not add a new category, but keep it lighthearted.

NAW!! %^$$%&%$& you blooming opposite of me!! :D

TYPE C: Suffered Older Sibling playing all the good games and taking up all the family time on elite, leaving you to burn deep resentment and kickstarter Elite and NEVER TELLING Them so you can play it first and then get revenge!!!

Type D - Original elite player from the 80s who loved the game, but does not consider themselves a gamer due to lack of time. Likely to be in their 40s or 50s. They probably have an XBox 360 or PS3 that has hardly been used. May well have young children/grand children that take away more of their time.

Characteristics: Able to afford all the toys like a good HOTAS, TrackIR, Oculus Rift.
Likely to say: Bring it on....

Exactly that! Creepy, where do you know me from :D?

So many fancy toys laying around and no time to play with them...

Which tastes better? :S

j/k

@Wombat, I'm very nearly a D in every way (including the grandchildren), it's just that I never played the original Elite, or ever heard of it when I was growing up :(

I really don't fit either A or B mold either, sorry. I've been a pc gamer for a long time, but not as long as Elite goes back. I have two PS3's that I use for media players in my bedroom and living room. I'm not a console guy, and my thumbs are still quite agile. I'm the right age, just not of the right background

I hope I'm acceptable in my current form

sort of a W or something... a bit before Gen-X ;)

I'm a console gamer who played Elite when it first came out on BBC.
Used to be a PC gamer but grew out of it.

Hmmm... reverse logic. I like it :D

Type B with a little of Type A.

Hmm.. no. I will never stop playing video games. I have been playing games since the Stone Age. Text-adventure (Infocom games, etc...)
Type A, is there such a thing? :p

Hah, yes maybe I have misjudged with the type A!
For me it was elite on the BBC B micro that ignited my gaming passion, and continues to this day. (Type F):)

Indeed, from Binatone to the present day, breaking controllers along the way (Atari motorbike bus jumping for one :D)

Hah! by the time the original Elite came out i had already been gaming for some years, this was the first games console i had,

I have had pretty much all the common consoles over the years and a few of the less common ones like the jaguar and the dreamcast although i passed on the last Xbox and PS3, PCs were far more powerful and better value by the time they hit the shelves so i couldn't see the point of buying them really.

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Definitely type B here! Only played Frontier and consider myself a pretty hard core PC gamer.

[Edit] -

How about type O for old fart who filled as type D but now, after retirement have all the time in the world to truly enjoy the game - (well within reason that is..) :D

Bring it on!

Yeah, this one.

Very type B here if you mean family as in children.

The bags under the eyes from late night, post-kids gaming bit is very familiar. I would add an uncanny ability to game one-handed (steady!). The other hand being used for feeding/winding/and generally keeping the baby quiet.

Type 64:
Got into gaming with Commodore 64 & c-tapes + monochrome TV.
Couldn't afford 8bit consoles or 16bit computers (like Amiga & Atari ST).
Jumped the PC bandwagon early with friends' / school's / parents job IBM PC/XT -> AT -> 386 -> 486, while still playing mainly on the good 'ol C64 (some time along the line upgraded to colour TV & 1541 (II) floppy disk drive).
Finally at uni got an own Pentium, sporadically upgraded (MMX -> P2 -> P3 -> Core2Duo) and now proud owner of new & shiny i5/i7 for E: D.
On the console front: there's one almost unused in the family (for gf/wife/kids/watching DVDs/bluRays).
+ optional: The bags under the eyes from late night, post-kids gaming bit is very familiar.
