Coaster Crazy My views

Okay so i have seen the video so time for my opinions :p Not that they are all too important.

Firstly whilst its not what most people expected or hoped it to resemble... there are some things that show potential now they have the engine.

The coaster supports look far more like real coaster supports! The track is smooth and the controls (from what i could tell in video) look great and simple to use. No complex methods like No Limits to achieve the same thing.

I'll play it as a game to play with when I'm relaxing, not sure I would hardcore play it for hours on end like RCT as its limited in what you can create.

So where could this go from here... well if Frontier are smart, they know RCT sold as number 1 in the past... now they have an engine with the physics, the coaster designer... all they need to do is expand it to a large PC game, change the graphics so its less cartoon style (remember graphics sell) so it appeals to more than just youngsters (remember only adults earn money - and you want that money) - less gimmicky things (like the character standing up on the coaster) - reminds me of the gimmicks in thrillville, which wasn't as successful =/

It looks fun i want to play it non the less, but i hope Frontier can see a bigger game idea with big profits from it if they put the time in. Although i don't know the budget of Frontier!

I wouldn't agree to expand the game by adding to it, it would need a new project just using aspects of this game to build the new project. There is no point in expanding the game if the game didn't take off so its not necessarily the best idea to expand, its better to separate them.

Side question: I am curious how come games like RCT / Thrillville are just not being renewed when they are biggest popular games. I never understand when a type of game sells well - stick with it. :p

I agree with everything you said, just wanted to comment on this real quick.

As you said yourself, Thrillville wasn't nearly as succesful as RCT so they may not be interested in using that IP anymore.

The IP for RCT is in Atari's hands so Frontier can't independently create a game with the name Roller Coaster Tycoon. That's a shame because the RCT name is a valuable franchise and it's easier to build on a franchise that has a name and respect around the world, than to start up a new franchise from the ground up.
That said, we all hoped Frontier would take the risk to start up a big project, to fill in the void of theme park games, while Coaster Crazy just seems to fill in 5 minutes of boredom, at best ;)

Let's just keep our fingers crossed that Frontier has big plans for the RCT fanbase.

This is the beginning of a family of theme parks games. All in good time, but I will say that Frontier plans to make a game like RCT3 in the future. Anyway I think the RCT4 is to come, only when Atari money will get to work, I give 4 or 5 years.

They can't make a game named RCT but they can make a game identical to RCT ... they name to me is not important as RCT died long ago as a franchise.

You underestimate the value of an existing franchise which has proven to be a bestseller in the past. A name sticks around in people's minds, a name is like a brand. It is very much of value

Sure, Frontier, or anyone, can make a game nearly identical to RCT and name it differently, I never said they can't. But you also seem to underestimate what it takes to start up an entire new franchise from the ground up, market it, gain the world's attention, and getting the return of the (massive) investment it took you to get started. There's never any guarantees that a new franchise will sell, there's always the risk factor. Which is why publishers want to produce masses of sequals to proven succesful games. It's so much easier to market "Roller Coaster Tycoon 4" and it's almost a guarantee that it's going to do relatively well once it's out, so the risk factor would be less big.

Why Atari (who hold the rights to RCT) haven't created an RCT 4 then? I believe it's because nowadays they don't have the budget to create a massive game like that. I can't exactly look into their bank account, but I get the impression Atari are rather small nowadays. ;)

None of what I'm saying is facts, I'm just trying to look at things from a neutral perspective and trying to explain why it might be so difficult for a developer (Frontier in this case) to create a large game as we all were hoping for. I think it's perfectly reasonable for them to start small.
Now the look of the guests in Coaster Crazy... those aren't perfectly reasonable, but that's an entirely different discussion ;)

Okay i totally agree with you. But a good game spreads regardless of the name. Youtube, game review sites, word of mouth etc,,,far more effective than TV adverts.

No one heard of many games on iOS or Android but they spread like wild fire when they are a hit. I believe if frontier did a strong and clever marketing which is cheap and most companies do it, they can get the hype easily....i dunno if they hire people that do it but it seems so obvious to me ==/ look at the best selling games copy their methods to get the name out.

Few pople are aware of RCT3D. Its no where to be found on more game review sites. This what i mean by people looking for RCT, i think its kinda faded away now. Someone needs to take the empty hole in the market

I guess the my problem is the same one I had with Th13teen. Everybody hyped it, got excited, and said what they thought would happen. Then when the actual thing was revealed, everyone was dissapointed. It was still perfectly good, but it was not what we expected, meaning we were all dissapointed...
