Imperials and the Power Plays people make

Good Evening, Citizens; Your lord and ladyships, Your Graces & Highnesses, Commanders one and all

As there various politicking within the Empire begins to ramp up, I have started to see various members of various camps in the Empire call each other "traitor"
So I write here, in this quite corner of the forum, to remind us all that the Empire lives and breaths by the Patron Client relationship.
Great People attract followers, who strive to improve the lot of their pledged Patron, why then in turn rewards those who are loyal to them.

The competition between the various factions encourages innovation and growth, finding the better way, the more efficient way, the more profitable way, to conduct business and thus benefit the Empire as a whole.

Just because a member of the Empire is a Great Patron to many does not mean they are making any claim to the Throne.
Just because someone has pledged themselves a Client, does it mean they are seeking to change the laws of succession in the Empire
Having a different Patron is not a reason to resort to Gang Warfare against fellow imperial citizens.

Mutual Service to the Patron, Mutual service that strengthens the Empire
After all we are all, all, clients of the Emperor.

Eh, sorry, but Patreus and Aisling definitely ARE planning to make plays for the throne, and I plan to see them boiled alive in acid.

Best not sit quietly with all the evidence you have of such high treason, if you don't present it, people might think you are in on it too, for concealing it

Otherwise you are suggesting harm to a Princess of the Blood and a Senator.
Both of whom are answerable only to the Emperor.
Some might even consider suggesting their bodily harm to be treason in of itself.

One could ask why Princess Arrisa started adding Duval to her name when she is still an illegitimate child of an affair, when it come to plotting for the throne.
And the chain of events was
Princess Arrias said she has evidence to present to the Senate that it was HR 706 Emperor’s Grace on the 28th of April 3301
On the 1st of May 3301 Senator Patreus called for the Proof in full to be presented
As yet that has not happened

But this entire debate is what I was talking about

Look! they is cutting taxes, that must be because they are making a bid for throne! Treason!
Look! they are building a fleet, they must be looking to claim the throne! Treason!
Hey we managed to get a confession from one of the Millions of pirates from several systems we slaughtered wholesale who said it was the Emperor’s Grace of HR 706 were in an the an Assassination attempt on the Emperor. The Tens of Millions of Credit reward has nothing to do with it either. Treason
A Daughter got upset with her father being cast aside by her grandfather! Treason
Two People Start Dating! TREASON!
Chancellor Blaine wont release the Emperor's Medical Records to the Senate. Treason

When does it end?

When Arrisa is Empress, and she has killed all the Senate and the Patrons and the Clients and whomever else, said or did the wrong thing, or did not say or do or think the right thing quick enough or often enough.

And the Debate goes on on who is the traitor.

And the Empire weakens,
drip
drip
drip
dying slowly
from the thousand self inflicted cuts

I agree with this post wholeheartedly. Two Aisling supporting Anaconda's I saw blockading Cartoi's only starport against Arissa supporters are a prime example of this idiocy.

I'm still suspecting a comedy moment where it turns out that our Imperial Majesty isn't actually in a coma, but using this as a ruse to draw his political enemies out.

Agreed with most of that. But I think one point is missing from it: this whole system (patrons/clients, at any level of society) only works when there is one capable person at the top of the pyramid.
Its our weakness, the head comes off without clearly indicating who is the next head, and we get chaos.

People calling themselves "traitors" is only a consequence of this phenomena. It is impossible for everyone to work on the same side as we have lost the link between the top patrons (one capable Emperor), and people will keep arguing and fighting like that untill the link is built again, or the Empire goes down.

Now starts the "selection process" where the next head is chosen. It can take multiple forms:
- consensus.
- smart political play.
- civil war.
- ...

I'm afraid to say, I think we all now how the next Emperor of our beloved empire is going to be chosen, in blood :).

Well played, I laughed, have rep. Splitter! :D

Yeah, I am just trying to bring attention to the fact the matter of Succession is separate from the Patron Client system
