castAR new 3d device

It has just occurred to me why CastAR is less likely to work well for ED. As although it great for cockpits, it will not be so useful when we can walk around ships. The Oculus will be good at both.

CastAR is pretty much pointless with Oculus Rift around now which does everything better, too late and too little.

I was forgetting in my previous post that CastAR can do VR as well as AR, it may even be better than Oculus rift at VR. We do not know for sure, We do know it has more horizontal resolution; 1280 per eye rather than 1920 split between 2 eyes. We do know it has a 120Hz refresh rate rather than 60hz and it looks like it will be smaller/lighter to wear. How can you say it is pointless?

What bothers me about the CastAR is that wand thing. When I am flying a spaceship I want my hands on a joystick and throttle not a magic wand.
Now if they figure out a way to let us use our hands to interact with objects in the virtual world that would be a different story.

I suspect the wand is an optional extra. The CastAR (from my reading of the feature set) can be used as a VR headset, or an AR headset, with or without any extras (such as the wand and the RFID components).

In Elite Dangerous, I suspect the CastAR can be used with the clip-on glasses (to eliminate the need for the retro-reflective sheets) in AR (so you can see where your keyboard and control devices are) or in VR (to shut out all light). Obviously in AR you don't want external light to interfere with your projected in-game experience, so you'd probably turn off your external display, but I digress.

It seems that there are possible options and combinations, and nothing is mandatory for the system to work (either the retro-reflective sheet/s or the clip-on VR piece can be used).

I guess a lot of people don't "get" just what CastAR can do ,It can do everything the OR can, full VR with "clip on" or AR ,so how is this sub OR or pointless? ,and the use of the wand is not mandatory ,so in effect it already a Higher res VR system than OR and much lighter so more comfortable ,better tracking (less barf bags reqd), as such I would probably use AR while in cockpit mode and swap to full VR in FP segments .

Although it hasn't made as much noise as OR dosn't mean it is lesser ,(a bit like Star Citizen and Elite:Dangerous ,the one who's making the most noise isn't always the best) :)
