Why I like Power Play!

Let me start by saying I agree with a lot of the criticisms. I do. And a lot of them are spot on. Like Titus's thread here.

So I'm not a White Knight who thinks Frontier can do no wrong. That said....

I love this flawed creation that is Power Play. It gives context to my actions.

I think it's because in my heart of hearts I've always been a roleplayer (dreaded word) and for those of us who think this way Power Play, flawed as it is, gives us a cause to cling to more than the ideologies of Empire, Federation or Alliance.

Because faces matter.

I find myself considering actions that would help her cause, even though there's no 'merit' or 'cash' reward.

Long Live The Princess.

I agree with you Jeff. I think Frontier have really turned things around from a questionable start by implementing Wings and Powerplay. Just loving the game but wait... You are supporting the princess? Boo! :p

But all credit to Frontier for their efforts on 1.3 - I expect things will be tweaked over time but the game is in a great place atm :)

You know what? I totally agree as far as the content of Powerplay is concerned: I love that there is a reason now to fight or do missions and the politics and schemes behind it.

What i do not like is the way it is presented: Like a table top board game. I would have very much prefered it would have been integrated more into the normal communication methods. Like the normal Bulletin board offering special missions to players having pledged allegiance to a power and so on.

Like it is right now it really feels tacked on and out of place, at least for me.

I think it's great in theory, but it seems almost anti-roleplay to me. Would a real pilot be dealing with this stuff? Does Han Solo look at CC scores? I think this sort of content should be presented through missions, NPCs and other players, not via a sort of abstract strategy board game.

Well for me the CC scores and whatever is secondary. Like I said, there are actions I can and will do to further Aisling's goals that have no rewards whatsoever... And did Aragorn role a charisma check when he made his speech (got a 12 I think, Theoden rolled a natural 20). These are aids and not necessarily 'anti-roleplay'.

I like the fact that powerplay is a giant space soap opera. Even as soon as next week we will see aisling and arissa on the outside agree and be friendly while behind their back they are fighting over the same system. Sure the Angels are winning it's prep work But next week you have to expand and that's when the fighting factions can shine.

"I can't wait to have a polite tone, while I mow down Angles Muahahahahahaha."

But seriously I love the potential for Political intrigues that came with this update It really makes you want to invest in your power. They need to balance bounty hunting a bit more though, Would have liked it to be a viable money maker like trading. *sigh*

It wouldn't surprise me if the overall PP mechanism was originally supposed to be the DDF's godlike powers with a godlike view looking at it. But they decided to release it for everyone. That's just a theory.

Looking at the content generated. Reddit threads, google documents, forum discussions, arguments between Angels and Lavignys, facebook groups etc It's clear many many people are enjoying the opportunity (and roleplay!) that Power Play affords.

I feel that it needs work (the recent mess to do with Prep and Expansion systems for example), but I do love Powerplay. I can definitely see the nascent potential for something awesome here. Politics, intrigue, and epic clashes ahead, perhaps?

Each to his own; some people apparently like going to the supermarket. :)

(and vacuuming!)

the only problem is find on PP is military strikes...1 merit (same to all ships) and 100 cr isnt enough to make me take my conda for a visit

With all the bickering and power plays that are happening in the forums, it's worth it just for that.

They promised Game of Thrones in space, and we got Forums Wars. :D

Joking aside, I'm actually am really enjoying the jostling of the player groups and internal squabbling that power play introduced. Now frontier need to expand the underlying mechanics to make the actual game play more engaging.

Take a Scout or a Courier instead just for the fun of it, both those ships are scrappy little dog fighters.

Watch the Power Play trailer closely and you will see bulletin board for powers there and comms for powers. So I guess soon we will have that.

Power Play is not for making money. It is for spending money and having a meaning of life.

I actively try not too pay attention to reddit, but know I have too.

I blame you for this. :)

EDIT: reddit, hilarious and tragic as always. Those Archon supporters are out for blood now. It's more Telenovela than Game of Thrones though. :D

Yeah, even within powers we're having discussion and intrigues. It's all very satisfying.
