Where does it state that Elite is a competitive game? I play purely for my own entertainment, not anyone else's, and I certainly am not in competition with anyone. Are you going to be the first person to win Elite?

there is also the issue of 'gaining unfair advantage,' something that is not possible as nobody is locked into open and anyone can switch modes at will. it's all down to the player what type of game they want, do they want the challenge of open or the predictability of solo/group play. as it stands people can play how they want to play and no amount of talking about it is going to convince me or others who feel the same that this is anything but a good thing.

All this debating aside it should be self evident to anyone with a brain that when you create a competitive game activity and leave it open to exploitation to players gaining unfair advantage that the whole competition is then left defunct. Imagine in football if the guy with the ball could drop into solo mode and just skip all the tackles and defence. That would never be a fair competition. And rightly so. The problem with ED is that it wants to be a fair competition, but is ham-stringed by catering to people who want their advantage in the competition and for it be considered fair, which it isn't. I don't see anyway to escape this while the solo/open system remains as is.

Its not a competitive game like League of Legends etc, and then taking your example when you show up to play a game you abide by the laws/rules set out by the governing body.

It will be interesting to see how this develops after Xbox and other consoles hit, shared galaxy, not shared instancing and there is a chance we could be outnumbered.

and lets say we get outnumbered what force us not to have the same fun us before?

Where does it state that elite is a competitive game? It doesn't state it anywhere, it outright has you compete with powerplay and cgs. If you do either one, you're competing directly or indirectly with others.

So are we suggesting there is no competition in ED. PP is one big competition. ED claims to be an MMO but it fails in that claim because it can't even define a fair playing field for what little systems it has to facilitate co-op pve or pvp gameplay. In fact the only thing that resembles a co-op feature is wings and even that is quite limited in scope for an MMO. Four is not a massive number. I am seriously starting to wonder how one can develop both a single player and multiplayer game and have them conflict on such a fundamental level in terms of game mechanics. How can anyone look at PP and accept it is a fair competition while ignoring how flawed it is that players in offline can compete with online without having to actually open themselves up to the risks of competition. It's actually hurting my head trying to understand this mindset, that allows for disproportionate advantages in a competition and thinks nothing of it.

Maybe isnt FD's problem that some ppl didnt research in full before they buy the product...

Of course, point is they will have a large and potentially massive effect on the game world without even having a chance of interacting with anyone on the PC/Mac side.

Selective Mutliplayer is a subset of MMO...

Selective Multiplayer

Its still relatively new imho.

Instead of picking on the solo player for your analogy, imagine a football game where the players play on different pitiches or at different times of the day.
it should be self evident to anyone with a brain that
it balances out on both sides

When u realise that we can have more fun on co-op than compete u will be more relaxed think about it ;)

The Steam store quite clearly lists the game as being multi-player, mmo, and co-op. If we can't believe what it says at the store page and have to conduct research to find the truth then things must be worse than I thought.

isnt about that u go do only what steam say? u dont try to find out more than what steam say?

You undermine, expand into, and prepare systems, some of which belong to rival powers. That's competing if I ecer saw it.
I've never taken part in either, and have absolutely no plans to do so :D
Then you're fine by me. I don't want to stop solo, I just want open to have an equal chance in pp or CGs.

That sounds like someone kicking a ball about by themselves on pitch all alone. I don't think that qualifies as a competitive game of football.
It does if the goals scored by yourself count towards a team's score, playing a competitive game.
