So I've lost all my merit claims?

Yeah they expire... Or so I thought. I retained 100% of my merits and I only gained 228. More information on how merit decay works would be really, really nice.

The OP talks about merits not even claimed, for example from crime sweeps. I don't think that it is intended that these just disappear.

I think it is ( intended ) otherwise you could just not cash them in until you have enough for lvl 5 ...

To be clear, I am indeed talking about merits that are not yet claimed, a bit like bounty vouchers or combat bonds.

If they were going to expire, they ought to have a timer on them like everything else in that tab that can expire.

Best laid plans hey..........................
I've been hit by this also. I naively thought a week of PowerPlay would last at least until Thursday night - logically Friday pm. Was going to cash in tonight.
So much for 2 night's worth of hunting. (still get to keep any bounty ON ME however).

Think there will be a few complaints tonight when most people log in. Pop corn at the ready.

If they were meant to expire, they would/should have shown when. And by when I mean precisely, like how bounties against you show when they expire. Surprises like this, depriving people of potentially hundreds of merit claims, are not okay.

You don't get to keep any unclaimed PP kills or cargo when the cycle ticks over. If you think about it this is the only way it can be. How can you claim merits for expanding a system that is no longer in expansion? If you didn't turn them in you didn't contribute towards the expansion in any way. Same could be true with undermining. It only makes sense that PP kills and stolen cargo have to be handed in in the same cycle.

Put it this way, anything not claimed by the end of the cycle doesn't help your power or contribute in any way so is worthless.

For what it's worth I think you're right on the money mate - the merits you earn are only relevant to the cycle during which you earn them. Makes sense to me.

I don't 'do' powerplay, but even I can see that if this is how it is supposed to work, then FD needed to have declared right up front, when the weekly tick would happen. Not claiming in time through forgetting or real life issues is one thing. Not claiming in time because you did not know when 'in time' was, is quite another.

Absolutely, you make sense sir.

What doesn't make sense is not telling people when the cycle will tick over, or making it clear that their efforts will be wasted if they don't claim, leading to many players losing hundreds of merits. That could have been done better.

Knowing that the cycle is week long, I myself assumed I had, you know, a week. Clearly that was my mistake.

Indeed. This DOES make sense and I agree with things.
What we NEED to know is when a cycle is due to "tock" and reset. We can then plan ahead for when to "cash in". I was happily sitting with enough merits to hit level 3 this week. Not the case now...........

Of course they are going to expire at the end of the cycle, they have to, they are relevant to systems which could change. It can work no other way.

The fact that there was no notification of the cycle end, that is a different story.

I completely agree sir. FD should have told us from the start the exact day and time when the cycles tick over. If it ticks over early and not at the exact same time and day next week there will be riots.

You know, I'm still glad they released when they did. Outside of this issue, I've been having such a blast with PP.

I was as eager as anyone to experience some of the update, mainly to get my hands on the ships. But they could have simply opened up the beta to more people steadily to test the integrity of the code, and also refine the systems, get more feedback, etc. The way they've gone about this, keeping the beta to a small number of people, and then springing it on everyone when it clearly didn't have its bugs resolved or balancing complaints answered, is causing more probems and disappointment.
