Why This Guy Won't Carry Guns on an Asp Anymore

Fellow Explorers,
.
I've always been a fan of carrying weapons and A-class shields on my deep explorer Asp but that all changed with 1.3.0.2.5.7.1... or whatever patch we are on now.
.
Coming back from a short 5klyies trip to Heart and Soul to turn in some data...
.
INTERDICTION! "yeah, I'm an Asp, I've got SIX guns, bring it on!" :D- submitting...
"Master Vulture eh? I've wasted these guys before. No pro.."BZZZpop! - Large Plasma Accelerator (PA) + Large scatter cannon in the face, 85% hull on first pass.
- 400Kps boost out licking wounds
.
Next system. INTERDICTION! "ok that last one was a fluke, I can probably take this guy." :S- submitting...
"Competent Clipper? E.A.S.Y. let me just turn around..."SMACK! - large PA + 2 beams + scatter cannon on the top of the hull, now at 60% hull
- 400Kps boost out. *Note* the Clipper should have been able to run me down but decided not to.
.
Next system. INTERDICTION! "What the heck? well I can probably out run whatever is coming."- submitting...
"Master python? What's with all the beastly bad guys?" - FA (off) boost left, watch the PA bolt fly past, boost away, tray tables upright, land at nearest station.
.
Bottom Line, for whatever reason the pirates interdicting me were high level and very capable. I'm no slouch in combat but was completely overwhelmed by their new capabilities so will go with the Monty Python "run away!" mantra from now on!
.
Fly safe commanders

Thats always been my argument.
If you cant escape them when you are stripped down, you cant kill them when armed for bear, so there is no point in taking guns when survival is the primary concern. Pride OTOH is a perfectly good reason to carry them if that floats your boat.

Yes, interdictions are now more sensible. No more Shieldless Sideys interdicting your War Python declaring that you are "Space Du..."
The AI may have been tuned up, but I cant say I have noticed it in bigger AI ships particularly. Small AI ships are much better in a dog fight, but thats it.

If I hadn't had any data to sell, I probably would have turned with the clipper and python to see their capabilities. But have definitely seen an increase in chaff use and FA-off by the more maneuverable/smaller npc's (vultures, Imp courier, eagles)

Guessing I got quite unlucky. Not pledged to anyone and even between 1.3.0. and 1.3.2., I had only been interdicted once.

Well, this threads made me soil meself a bit. Coming back to the bubble (7Kly to go) for the first time in a long time. With paper thin shields (3D) and the worlds crappest thrusters on an Asp. Marvelous.

Would you mind sharing your combat rating? I've heard this from some folks, and others aren't noticing a difference. I'm beginning to wonder if the NPCs might have started scaling based on your rating.

Just did another test. Solo Play, Stock Sidewinder between Lembava and Diaguandri to move my DBE over and was interdicted.
.
This time it was a wing of 3. 2 x Mostly Harmless sidewinders without shields and 1 x Harmless Eagle. Even with the stock sidewinder, they died without me losing shields.
.
Returning from Diaguandri to Lembava in an A-Class DBE with 3 appropriate sized pulse lasers. Interdicted in Lembava by 2 x Master Eagles. Wiggly buggers but successful with minor damage.
.
The OP was in my mostly A-class Asp so maybe it's based on the value of your ship?

Cheers Cornelius - appreciated. I may be in touch (depending on when I get to be on).

@domaq - ta for that - I'm already on the list to help people out ;)

Have interdictions increased? or are they the same as at 1.2

Just returned to "civilized" space last night, got interdicted once trying to fly to the station, jumped, got intedicted on my way to the next station, landed safely. Decided I needed to check out the nearby station for better gear and got interdicted AGAIN on the way to the nearby station, it was only .5 ls between the two stations and I still got interdicted.

I cant tell you if they've increased or its just this godawful set of systems, but if I cant even fly 0.5ls without getting interdicted, Id have to say its gone up. I dont know how Im going to make it to Lembava if I cant get some better defensive gear on my Asp, eventually someone is going to get lucky.

Hum... makes me think. Is it better to stop off at the first High Tech/Industrial to get some better armament before heading deeper into the bubble.... or am I safer just scooping & jumping to Lembava asap?

If you're in Open, PvP has been very heavy in that system starting in a few hours (as people get home/ wake up I think).
.
Double, if you want a relatively safe inbound vector, aim for 41 Andromedai (sp?). it's about 200Ly out but I scanned every body in that system and didn't see a single ship. From there it's about 2-3 jumps to get to your destination. But like Murishani said, you're most likely to get interdicted on the way to the Station there...but probably only once.
.
It will still be a few hours until I'm home to help escort if you can wait that long. I'm parked where you're going with heavy weapons.
.
Murishani, you should be fine to get to the station. If worried, look for 5A thrusters and 4A power distro. I'm able to outrun any npc's like Whiterose has said.

Interesting stuff. I finished the last 7kly of my return trip last night and docked at a high tech empire system on the edge. I saw no other ships until I entered that system, and had no interdictions on the way. My ranks are as in sig, and I'm in a typical explorer configuration Asp.

Debating what to do myself, as I do want to sell the data through several systems.

I picked docking at a high tech for a chance to upgrade at least, and maybe pick up a courier if they sold one, which they didn't. That will be a decision for tonight, but based on this thread I think I'll just play turtle. Pack the biggest shield I can along with some boosters with surviving as the goal. I didn't like the Asp for combat when I did tried it for rank mission, as I don't have another combat ship at the time.

I kinda decided the courier was a good turtle ship. Put the best shields and boosters on that, and it will out-shield an A-spec non-boosted anaconda.

This is the exact question I am wrestling with at the moment, the nearest high tech is a bit aways from me, so is Lembava, my ship jumps like the ens but she cant get shot at, not sure if trying to turtle up or just run like the devil is on my tail would be more effective.

that would be the quandry, I am currently in a filthy backwater slaver cesspool and my lightweight garbage thrusters and PP are still better than anything they've got to offer, unless you're looking for slaves of course. I need to get to a station that has these components, but in order to do so I need to fly through the pirate-palooza that is civilized space (apparently).

As per the OP, I do not recommend "arming up" in an Asp that you are not prepared to lose. Especially if you're not used to combat. BSR tactics are preferred.
.
It was not my intent to scare everyone into their shelters and generate more work for Murishani's Escort Service :); simply warn you all of the apparent increased danger. I'm continuing to explore just with larger Thrusters and a 3A shield.
