Traffic Report

I like the "Traffic Report" section of the News in Starports.

My heart tells me its based on real player data - my head tells me it probably isn't.

Does anyone know for sure? Any official word on it?

Would be much appreciated!

I think it is a combination of NPC and player traffic. More populated systems have more NPC traffic, but I don't think background traffic counts, only NPC's that get spawned because there is a layer in the instance.

I went trough old posts (such as this one) and found no answer. I would liekt to know how trafiic report is calculated?
Does it only count CMDRs? Offline and online? Only once a day or every time they jump into the system?

It is human players only, but not unique IDs. So if one sidewinder comes and leaves 10x, there will be 10 sidewinders reported. If you dont believe it is just humans: go to a remote tiny system. You'll find there to be NPCs, but traffic report at 0. Traffic reports are a good indication of system popularity. When I sneaked into the archon HQ, there were about 2000 traffic counts in a region that previously was barely visited by people. :)

Correct.

In the little system I'm cultivating I'm normally the only person it ever sees. 1x Python, it'll say. Then I pop next door to run an mission and come back. 2x Pythons, it'll say.

Occasionally it says 1x Python, 1x Vulture. So I put on my tin hat... but he was probably gone hours ago.

those systems are great ! you can have an area of open play that you can trade with no shields and no weapons, found a station with palladium at 2000cr below avg and one nearby buying same at above average I'd tell you the name but then I would have to hunt you down and killyou

My home station almost always shows 1 Clipper (me!). Advantages of having a hideout 250k ls from the drop in.

When I see any other ship show up in the report...I get super paranoid

Was just thinking the other day about the holographic adverts on the station i was landing on and though... I wonder if they would actually have real product placement / adverts on those one day?

lol thats a daft thought, just ignore me.

Players only. But doesn't count unique visitors. A CMDR who visits twice in the same 24 hrs is counted as two. So high traffic systems are usually also on decent trade routes.

The stats are for the system, not the station. (Includes CMDRs not playing in open too)
