What's happened to the ring systems?! They look terrible!!

UPDATE 2: Frontier have confirmed there is a bug in the ring systems. This video shows the ring system bug in action:

UPDATE: This is a comparison shot taken by CaptainKremmen which he posted further into this thread.

I just wanted to add this in here, as it highlights the issue pretty well:

It's seems every major patch, I end up posting about how the Ring systems get a graphical downgrade. This has happened consistently since late Beta. (For some reason I'm also the only one that seems to care all that much about this. :D )

So what gives? The ring systems look pretty awful in my screenshots above. I'm just heading out to check some ice ones...

EDIT: As a comparison here is how they looked in Alpha. And to clarify, I'm not comparing the close up details of the asteroids themselves...I'm actually comparing the level of detail in the distance. Look at how they used to transition into the distance compared to now. In this screenshot it's only in the far distance that the LOD starts having issues...

Another intended optimization that broke something else I reckon.

No you are not the only one. I have been posting about this as well. It looks horrible now and I run with everything at max. What is even more annoying is the performance in there has gotten worse ! 90-100 + fps and continue to get stuttering and a lag spike about every 60 seconds and this is in solo with no ships spawned in yet. Please put the dust back in to hide those untextured asteroids.

Well I'm glad it's not just me. But I really don't think I want to go check what these look like in the Rift. The Rings were the most stunning things to see in the Rift once upon a time. :(

yeah this has happened with every major update, I think they keep trying to sneak it past us before the console release

If that is there intent, it would seem they are succeeding. No one really seems to be making any complaints about it.

Gotta make it run on the Xbox One somehow, ... sigh.

It is very disappointing to see these kinds of things. There are a lot of things that have gotten uglier since the Beta.

agreed, with draw distance/pop in being the worst offender, having the inside of a station pop in when your almost upon the entrance is horrible, and extra detail on outposts appearing out of nowhere :-/ im sure that slider in the graphics options only makes about a 10 meter difference from min to max.

Hmm... has something happened to the view distance ?

Doesn't look that bad last time I entered one. Might have to recheck though...

Not the best shot as I was doing something else (V1.3.02)... but I don't see any obvious break between Objects (Asteroids) and the distant background Pseudo-Asteroid GFX. Seemed to blend in just fine with proper draw distance.

Almost as if Model Draw Distance is completely nullified...

Yep something has definetly happened and I have footage to prove it. I've had to throw away otherwise good footage due to draw distance issues and other glitches.

Just dropped into a planetary ring to check this out, and yes... even with a "rising sun" as backdrop, there was no atmosphere at all...

Something's fallen off the graphics cart...

I think it's the removal of the dust in some fields as maybe the dust hid the texture less roids?

looks like some someone ate some taco bell and drank some yuengling then proceeded to orbit a planet until the hangover wore off.

I noticed this last night, but I had just changed my field of view so chalked it up to that.

If it has been downgraded it is very dissapointing.

Frontier? Comment?

Took this now...seems fine to me. Gonna check out a metallic ring next...

The "dust" have never been in all of the fields as far as I know. It's been variable between areas I think.

Yep...this is from another part of the ring (ice) around the same gasgiant...here there is "fog":
