An experiment...

Given that the route planner is still incredibly slow the closer you get to the core, I decided to run a test when I got close to the core to do my last approximate 1000ly course in.

Heading up from Great Annihilator, I got within the 1000ly range and then opened the galaxy map route to plot a course. I had youtube stuff running on a 2nd monitor, but nothing else.

Well, it's finished plotting the route to Sag.A and it took approximately 64 minutes to do so.

My CPU is 1055T Phenom II (6 cores) and I honestly don't remember it taking this long before.

Just gotta hope the server don't crap out on me before I get there again. :D

64 minutes? I would kill the process of the game and try another distance if it would take more than 10 minutes

Do you know about the hint of plotting (distance, jumprange related etc). Dont have the link handy now to post...

Have you read the thread on how to improve core plotting speeds?

Normally I would have killed the process, but I haven't been out to the core since a lot of the changes were made and I wanted to try a direct comparison. It was just sheer curiosity really to be honest. And thanks for mentioning about the the other thread, I have the link myself somewhere, but again, just wanted to see what would happen.

This is really weird and a bit frustrating, as I posted this in the Buckyball Run thread a little while ago. :(

It looked really promising so I hoped that plotting would work better for everybody now.

Good news I think for those CMDRs making a run this weekend. :)

I didn't get to play last night, so I'm still in the same place in the core - I jst had a check of the GalMap performance and it appears to be better than it's EVER been.

1) Magic numbers still plot in about 1 second.
2) Distances greater than 990LY appear to always plot really quickly, within normally within 5 seconds for me but always within 10-15 seconds.
3) Other distances vary, sometimes it still hangs up at 98-99% for at least a minute (I didn't bother waiting longer than that).

It's possible that the 990+ distances are still related to the magic number stuff, but I could never plot those quickly before, so hopefully it'll work for everyone and there will be no need for magic numbers!

It's also possible to select another star easily it a plot is stuck at 98%, so you're no longer trapped with the slow plot.

Fly Safe CMDRs! And good luck to you all. :)

EDIT
I've just noticed all of the typos in my original quoted post.
