Was at wolf 467 doing a intel run and then some pew pew in the combat zone, I running a A grade vulture with military armour and C3 Weapons I get interdicted by a cmdr and then with no warning they open fire destroying me in seconds.

bought back my ship 1.4 million cr insurance go out for a cargo run to fed headquarters same cmdr and friend interdict me again this time I try to run get blown up again.


This is a joke I cannot fight people with hacked ships who seem hell bent on destroying people for no reason what has openplay become at the weekends when these guys come out to play?

Probably not as rampant as planetside2 but it's out there. The fact that hax are even possible is about the biggest reason i don't pvp. You never know who you are going up against and what they might have up their sleeve.

I've played in Open for as long as it has been possible to do so since early development. I have never come across another player that cheated.

I've played planetside 2 for since beta and really never had a problem with cheaters, you used to get people flying through the landscape from time to time but they died much like everyone else, don't really think rampant is the right word Its probably much the same as ED - its isolated, but it happens.

Not as rife as you could be led to believe by reading the forums and reddit.

The problem is, when it does happen, its front page news. Nobody ever makes a forum post saying "I was in PvP and the other guy wasn't cheating!!!"

Feel free to check out the cheat forums (naturally can't link here). A number of them have reported being banned there, sometimes for a short period, others for longers. The system works, people do get banned. Funnily enough though, those who have been banned tend to say something like "LOL, was banned. Guess ill play something else now" ... in other words, many of them are not even invested in the game at all. They just cheat for the laughs, and are willing to throw 60 dollars down the drain.

The best comment of all i read there though was someone complaining that second hand accounts (also not allowed by T&Cs) almost cost as much as buying them first hand. That one made me laugh a lot. And to top it off, they know those accounts can be banned at any time by FD, they are some really messed up people.

Still, there are not too many of them. It seems confined to a very small group. Most of whom will eventually move onto other things. Either by themselves, or when they get banned.

Rule number 1 and why MMOs often fail flat to cheaters. Never give the client power to determine damage, hitpoints etc. It must always be server side.

Telling somebody not to play open due to cheaters is like telling somebody not to leave the house in order to avoid getting struck by lightning.

Sure, it can happen. But it is so rare that gimping your own gameplay over it is overkill.

Report the cheater (as you already did) and then just avoid the system for a bit.

Yes but if you got struck by lightning twice in one day you'd probably stay inside for a while. The OP got killed twice and you're trying to claim it's extremely rare.

I witnessed exactly this last night (fully recorded and reported) 6 ships from Pythons fully loaded and Vultures fully loaded on an annie shields where taken down to the last shield ring. The idea of open play is to put our fly/combat skills against other CMDR's there is no skill in running around in a hacked ship that can't be taken down it just spoils what is an excellent game, once the hack gets out to all players there will be no point in playing and just do away with combat levels.

I think, they do that with propose. This is not always superiority, this is a more forcing people to leave Open play.

Nah, these are stupid kiddies feeling their oats, and not just weekends, it's summertime and schools out. Agree they should be permanently banned, not just shadowbanned. FD needs to address this with a hammer. Doesnt scare me, but it does many including Ars reporter Lee Hutchinson who will not play openplay even in his Annaconda, so it is something that should not be treated lightly. And shadowbanning is treating lightly, something akin to a slap on the hand.

Getting destroyed in an A-class Vulture in seconds? Two FDL or similar can do this with, no cheats or hacks required, just much more fire power and auto-aiming weapons. Elite Dangerous isn't designed for that type PvP.

Not saying that there aren't cheats and hacks being used. Every PvP game I ever played had cheaters and hackers. But often it's just players much better than me and with the extreme un-balance between ships in ED, auto-aiming weapons, SCBs and wings it's extremely easy to get destroyed very, very fast.

How that fits in a definition of cheating is beyond me.

Also, Vulture is one of the worst ships for PvP. Decent shields mean nothing against good player with fixed weapons, firepower is very meh and its very slow. The problem is, that most Vulture pilots have the illusion of flying a good ship. Its not. Not for PvP, against faster, stronger ships (FDL and Clipper especially).

OP, you were unlucky to be targeted by good players. Jerks, but they obviously knew what they were doing.

Not every player that plays better than you, or takes more risk (like using full railgun loadout) is a cheater.

It doesn't matter, World of Tanks does that and there are still a whole load of mods that work and the company still refuses to post a list of banned mods, in that case i doubt they care about the small perecntage of players that are using cheats because most of their money comes in from players who don't know that it's even possible to cheat so it does not effect their revenue stream.

Financially unless cheating gets REALLY out of hand its just not worth spending money fixing it and we already paid FD for our games, some new players may even buy into the game BECAUSE of being able to cheat.

You know I got destroyed twice by a wing of fer d lance in my a grade vulture in a matter of seconds, they had huge hard points and first time I tried to low wake jump(noob mistake).
Second time I just got pawned (wasn't hacking)

Its not cheating unless they kill you three times without a word
